My Frame Rate
« on: July 09, 2016, 07:57:07 AM »

Here is my settings and frame rate.
I am using a GeForce 9500 GS video card.
Any suggestions?

That is a pretty weak video card. It only has 512mb of memory which is the recommended minimum memory for AH2. AH3 will switch more of the graphics work load to the video card. At this point it is looking like a 2 gig memory card may be the recommended minimum video card with a 4 gig being a better deal, altho HTC has made no "official" announcement as yet.

The beta is just that, beta. They may get it optimized more, but still 512 is pretty low and that card is really going to struggle to run the graphics.

Try a lower max texture size, 512 or less, on the video settings option on the first screen you see when you start the game before you enter the arena.

Thanks for that info.  I kinda knew the video card was weak, but not sure what to upgrade to.  I will try the 512 setting in the mean time.

At this point the best advise would be "wait".

A DxDiag output would help in helping you in the upgrade when you think it'd be time.

GullGutz,

That is a smart decision to hold off as long as you can.  Also, simply testing with that video card, adds good information to the discussion.  Like Bizman says a Dxdiag.txt needs to be posted in order to speculate on system's capacity, especially need the information on power supply.

There is more to a video card than dedicated video memory.  Some conversations have also pointed towards memory bandwidth, and memory speed and DDR type.  There a more statistics that you can shake a stick at.  I like this site that gives you comparisons between some of the popular cards.  It has not been updated to include the new 1080 nvidia models, but it can give you a sense of performance value, head to head versus, by choosing a card from the drop down box at the top of the page.  http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=695&card2=598

Wait and see what the new 1060s can do, at the very least.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

512MB is the minimum requirement for the dedicated video RAM.  Even more importantly, the NVidia 9800GTX is the baseline performance video card.

The 9500GS is roughly 375% slower than the 9800GTX.  Simply put, you are not going to get very good performance, out of that video card in AH3.  Wish I had better news.

AH3 is far more dependent on the video card performance, than AH2 is.

I will be replacing the 9500 for this card.  $73.00 from newegg.  We'll see what happens.
ZOTAC GeForce GT 730 DirectX 12 (feature level 11_0) ZT-71115-20L 4GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 (x8 lanes) Plug-in Card Zone Edition Video Card

P.S.  The 512 setting didn't change anything.

Like everyone else said HOLD OFF!

Don't make any snap decisions as AH3 isn't going live today. Do your research, post a DXdiag here for more help in what your computer can handle, and save your money. When it comes time to get a new card you'll know what works, and what doesn't with out guessing.

Im not sure that the card you picked is worth the money. It may not run AH3 any better. More memory is great, but if it isn't fast enough you'll never get to use that memory.

One word: Don't.

More words: Gt 730 isn't that much a stronger card than the 9500 despite ranking a little better in benchmarks. And despite the 4 GB memory is plenty, the DDR3 type is S-L-O-W. Raising your FPS from 13 to 15 isn't worth it.

The 9800 GTX is still faster than the GT 730.  Meaning the 730 will almost match the performance of the 9800GTX in AH3.  That is with every graphic detail disabled and a smaller texture size chosen.

Here is a comparison of the three boards.
I'm not sure what all the numbers mean.
I have already purchased the new card as I needed a video card for another machine anyway.
So this will be a learning lesson for me.
I'll report the difference once I have it installed.

If you didn't have to buy it, good.

Here's some simplified clarification:

Bus Interface: What type of slot it's built for. PCIe cards are both ways compatible, so even a modern PCIe 3 type card should work in a PCIe 1 slot and a type 1 card in a type 3 slot. Of course the speed is along the slower one.
GPU Class: Desktop, Laptop, whatever type computers it's designed to fit in.
Core Clock: Core is the processor of a video card. It does the calculation. The clock rate tells how many calculations it can make in a second. MHz means Million cycles per second.
Memory Clock: How many times in a second the memory can store and deliver data. Think of it as writing  Post-Up notes and finding, reading and wiping them when needed, a Billion times in a second.
Maximum Memory Supported: How big a pile of Post-Up notes the card has.
DirectX: Which is the latest version of DirectX the card supports. Tells a little about age, too, but that's not a big issue unless you're trying to play a very modern game with a very ancient computer - in which case you'd encounter other issues already.
OpenGL: Basically the same as above. Another method.
Max TDP: How much power your card theoretically uses.
First seen on Chart: Q means Quarter of the said year. Thus Q2=April, May and June.
# of Samples: How many cards they've got information about.
G2D Rating: How well the card performs in regular tasks such as Windows Desktop, Fonts etc. If you have issues there, it's most often because of a bottleneck somewhere else in your system.
G3D Mark: How well the card performs in game like benchmark testing, the bigger the value the better. Note that the result is valid only for the benchmark program used.
