The night is back!
« on: August 30, 2016, 03:10:09 PM »
So glad AH3 has night time. I see night fighters in our future! Was mulling over some ideas , I think the icon range should be shortened at night, say 3k for all planes except for night fighters with radar. I know the JU88 and Mossies had night fighter varients. And of course the P61. I wish the night would last longer.

You may not have noticed, but the light illuminating gunsight reticles relies on the sun or the moon as a light source. I've made most of the night sights used in the war and tested them during night. They look better with the sun up.

I am one of the lame ones.  night time comes and I cannot see anything so I go elsewhere.  Sure I could mess with the gamma settings but if we are gong to do that what is the point of night?

Nigh time is nice when Santa comes around on Christmas Eve.   Please keep it as a once a year novelty.

It looks nice, except for the water that glows like the swamp on Dagobah.

It is harder to see, which causes some people to change their gamma setting, effectively giving them pseudo-daylight visibility - and an advantage over those that leave it dark.  Word gets around about changing your gamma to rebalance the advantage and soon most people are turning up their gamma.  Some people just log off.  The result is less players and everyone flying in washed out lighting conditions, which negates the whole night time experience.

For scenarios, it might work but not in the MA.

Being able to see the enemy is fun.  Not being able to see the enemy is not fun.  Plus, what Caldera said.

At night if you are on the ground in a GV crossing from any spawn to a field. Some of the houses set around by the terrain tiles have white glowing windows after dark.

The 4 white dots in the P61 night reticle are mostly to help the pilot know how close he really is. The two outside are 70Mil apart while the two inside are 10Mil apart. The British had something similar for the MKII where a blanking plate would allow only the center dot and about 6Mil of the ring on each side to show. Shooting at night was a very close experience so horizontal dots made sure of the range while most planes never knew the night fighter was back there.

I once read an account of a Spitfire pilot that was assigned to night fighter duty.  He was repeatedly vectored to incoming bombers or other bogies by the radar operators.  Despite multiple sorties he never fired a shot because he never saw a single target.  Does not quite sound like fun game play to me.

How about night fighters to use?

The P61, Ki-45, He 219 would be great!
