I don't know how you got it to work in yours but as you can see, yours doesn't work for me either.

So I must be doing something wrong, however, I do not know what my mistake is.

I used the text file Hitech posted and my 24 x 24 cursor.bmp
background color is r=255, g=0, b=255

you need to describe the alpha channel with either a "cursor_A.bmp" a 256 bit map with alpha

All I have is MSPaint to work with and I have never seen anything about an alpha channel in that program. So I have no idea how to make a bitmap with alpha.

That's interesting. I zipped up the files exactly as they are in my AH3 folder.

You did name the text file cursor_A.txt?

MSPaint may not have the complexity (ability) to work with 8-bit images, or reduce colors to a 256 count. Krita can.

https://krita.org/en/

Just save the image to an 8-bit .bmp format, which is 256 colors. Then since you have an alpha text file (cursor_A.txt) you are declaring that any instance of that color (256,0,256) will be transparent. So, you simply select everything in the background and fill it with that color.

I like to start with something that has much higher resolution, and then reduce it in the final stage. I can show you how to do this, but I usually use Photoshop. Krita has the same functionality, plus it's free.

it is saved in 256 format & the text file is cursor_A.txt, from Hitech's post.

And it still doesn't work on my computer

Then the next question is are both files saved to the Aces High folder?

On my system that would be G:\Hitech Creations\Aces High III

I may have changed it from the default folder, but you should get the idea from that where those files go.

Anything. It only takes a few minutes if you already have a picture you want to use. The only problem is that if the picture has a lot of details (like the rivet plan sheet for the Mustang), then the result will probably be a lot of random dots. So, the less busy a picture is the better it will make a pointer. It usually takes longer to find a picture than it does to convert it.

yes, both are saved in the Aces High III folder.

the original for my silhouette came from a 480 x 480 jpeg. Opened in MSPaint & went over the image with a line tool. Saved as a 256 BMP. Used MSPicture Manager to resize down.

By the way loved the detail in your P38 cursor.

Like your cursor, Challenge  :aok

When I got the invite to the 80th and posted my cursor, there were some that liked it and said they would use it.

Now because of this post I wonder how many others will create a custom mouse cursor of their favorite ride ?

Some people know that my love of the P-38 comes from my parents, who met in 1943 on the P-38 assembly line at Lockheed. And that is why its all I fly. And why I created my cursor.

However, eventually I would like to learn The B-25H(I enjoy JABO), P-40, P-39(early 80th FS planes) and the Corsair(flying from a carrier - something different) so that I can expand my participation in scenarios. And I'll make a cursor for them as well.

One of the greatest strengths of any game, IMHO, is it's community of players.

Got a problem, just ask, and people will help. Even the "Grand Poobah" himself will answer. How many other games can say that ?
:salute to all   :old:
