That's what mine does.. Running Nvidia dx11 version it minimizes frequently and it doesn't go into tray it disappears into the background and I have to end task in task manger then log back in... If I run dx9 version it won't let me use Nvidia it makes me use integrated graphics with good fps.. But at also didn't minimize my game and even when I hit windows key to minimize it I was able to immediately get it back from tray. Did not get stuck in background.  Windows 10

Have tried everything I can think of to duplicate this, I have not been able to duplicate it to find out what the issue is.

HiTech
I have the issue frequently.

1. Right Click on Desktop
2. Select nVidia Control Panel
3. In left panel select "Manage 3D Settings"
4. In right panel select "Program Settings" tab
5. Under section 1., check the box for "only programs on this computer"
6. then hit the "Add" button and navigate to where Aces High III is installed and select "aceshigh11.exe".  Repeat to add "aceshigh9.exe".
7. Go down to section 2. and select nVidia processor

I've noticed when DX11 version has just started running I can easily Alt-Tab in and out of it with no problems. After it's been running awhile is when things start to get dicey for me. For example hitting Alt-Tab and nothing happens.

Skuzzy (or anyone else) - Could you please suggest optimal 3D settings for Nvidea cards? I believe "application controlled" is the suggested choice but some clear guidance on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

I took a number 2 flat blade screw driver and popped the Windows key off of my keyboard. Seems to be fixed now.  :D

When it happens to me, the AHIII icon is in my bottom menu bar.  I click on it and I'm right back in the game, flying.  I'll try Skuzzy's suggestion and see where we go!

that's how we got Nvidia to run dx11 version and my vid Mem under cntrl "I" showed my mem went from 112.5 to 3008 and fps went to 60 but same process doesn't work doing that to dx9 version cntrl "I" still shows 112.5 mem of which I'm drawing 300  :bhead I wouldn't even need dx9 version if I didn't have the minimize problem ty for the response scuzzy

My Graphic card is a 7800 Series AMD Radeon with 2 GB onboard.  I switched to 512 on my textures, all sliders left, and everything disabled (to get through FSO tonight).  Was getting 55-60 FPS last night with no freezes or boots other than a lost host connection.  I expect to upgrade to a GTX 1060 or 960 this week coming up.

Strange Waystin.  I am running AHIII with a Radeon 7870 2GB card at 2k resolution and textures at 4096.  I have environment map set to none and the other graphic sliders are centered except for tree detail which is set 1/3 from the left.  Cockpit reflections and anti-alias is also turned off.  With these settings I am consistently at 55-60fps.  My only fps drop happens occasionally when flying at tree top level or over town where it will dip momentarily to 40fps.  My CPU is an i5-3570k at 3.4ghz.  I am using Windows 7 64-bit.  You might also check your Crimson drivers.  I am using driver 16.3, which I understand is best one for the 7800 series cards.

I was playing ah3 yesterday, then I went to desktop and got busy for an hour or so somewhere else.  when I came back the screen must have just gone to sleep.  I just tapped my keyboard and was able to go back into the game which had been minimized.  I had no problems whatsoever.

@waystin2, @edge12374 there's three versions in the 7800 series, two of them being 7870's. They're not performing similarly at all. Just a side note.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

Will check it, thanks Tshark.  Still due for an upgrade, but need to have a working soultion for FSO until I get it done.
