OK, so some friends and I met up in Austria this summer for like a reunion. Two buddies and myself decided to make a road trip out of it, driving down through Sweden, Denmark and Germany. On the return trip we also drove through the Czech Republic. So, six countries and close to 5,000 miles. On the way we visited the Type VII u-boat U-995 at the Laboe Naval Memorial, The German Tank Museum in Munster, Dachau concentration camp, BMW Welt in Munich, Luftwaffenmuseum Flugplatz Berlin-Gatow, Castle Hohenwerfen south of Salzburg in Austria (cast as "Schloss Adler" in
Where Eagles Dare) and many other interesting places.
For the trip I bought an (another) old BMW 5-series as a project car... I cleaned it up, fixed it, painted it matte-black on black with red pinstriping, and decorated it with skulls and other appropriate artifacts. Vikings need a proper longboat when doing Europe... I named it "Roadkill" since it was a fair chance it would break down and we'd have to ditch it and take the train the rest of the way. However, it defied its name and made it all the way there and back again, and collected many other names along the way: The Black on Black, Das Böses Auto, Bösemobil, and The Grim Beemer, among others.
I had a dashcam running for safety reasons, and one of my buddies also ran some cameras during the voyage. So with all the gigabytes of video available I decided to make a sort of "dashcam diaries" of the whole road trip. Episodes will be published
irregularly in this thread for those who's interested in watching what a road trip in Europe looks like... With silly foreigners speaking silly foreign languages with the occasional English word or sentence thrown in seemingly at random.
I'm hosting the videos on Vimeo. Click on the Vimeo button if you want to watch in fullscreen and HD.
