Aces High film viewer
« on: September 23, 2016, 10:48:56 AM »
Since AH III has been turned on, I haven't been able to view films recorded. The films are being recorded in a format that is not being recognized by the film viewer. What do I need to do to correct this so that i can view flight sorties?
Thanks for any info.

Send me a film you are having trouble viewing, or post it here.

I have already had a few similar questions. The AH3 AHFilm program is probably not linked to the desktop icon. It's an old problem. Just recreating the shortcut and cutting, and pasting to the desktop will fix the problem. If that is not it then I apologize.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Do you still have AH2 on your system? Are you opening the film from the AH3 film viewer?

The films in the film folder all want to open with internet explorer. Is there something I need to change to get them to open with the film viewer? I just got a new pc with windows 10. I have removed AHII and Beta programs.
Thanks for your help.

navigate to C:\Hitech Creations\Aces High III\films or where ever you installed the game. Right click on a film and select "open with". In that drop down, if it doesn't have the AHfilm, use the "browse to...." to browse to the Aces High III folder and click on the AHfilm.exe.

This will set the AHfilm viewer as your default program to open to run the films.

As far as I know, AH2 films cant be viewed by AH3 film viewer.

If you aren't able to associate the films with the AH3 film viewer just start the film viewer and use it to open the films.

It seems that the film viewer uses an fov of 80, though I've set the in-game fov at 106 and selected "recorded views".  Am I missing something?

Also, can the film record the TrackIR view?  (I thought that I've seen that on youtube.  Maybe those were recorded with some other method.)

There is a FOV slider in the top right. It does seem to start at a certain FOV no matter where the slider is, but once you move the slider you can make adjustments.

No the game does NOT capture TrackIR. To view films with trackir you have to run a 3rd party software to capture it WHILE running the game. OBS seems to work well with out a big hit on your CPU. https://github.com/jp9000/obs-studio/releases/tag/0.15.4

FOV zoom doesn't change the FOV for me.  Maybe I'm missing a setting: "default view", and "use recorded views" (though changing them doesn't seem to change the function of FOV zoom).

I tried changing FOV in the game and the film viewer didn't change. Toggling full screen didn't reset it. Exiting full screen and then the film viewer left bits of the full screen image on the desktop. It also turned off my aero desktop.

same, I just checked it. I dont use it, view most of the films from outside so I can see what they/we are doing. But tested it today and the FOV slider doesn't work.

Had problems with this myself, Filmviewer on my desktop was from Beta and it didn't upload the new one there so I deleted it and pinned the actual from my HTC file to desktop and everything is now good. Next tour is Jets only for me in fighters so I can make a sweet Nowotny montage  :rock
