Let's talk AP CMDR (the new mouse control)
« on: October 06, 2016, 01:56:18 PM »
I'm greatly disappointed with this new feature. When I am on the go, with my laptop, I fly with my mouse. I haven't had a chance to play AH3 since its release, and logged on last night to be in total dismay. This feature needs to have a toggle in the settings or preferences. I'm pretty much only flying bombers and my normal simple flights are now a bit more encumbered. If there is a way to turn this off, I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me out.

So far these are my problems:
-It defaults in this mode and you unable to toggle it off so far as I can tell.
-If you use the mouse panning mode (Shift H) and you have any other auto pilot active, when you move your mouse to look around, it changes the autopilot to cmdr and adjusts your attitude differently. Note that you are not controlling the aircraft while mouse panning the AP mode just changes. I.e. AP angle mode is on (green), use your mouse to pan, AP mode changes to cmdr (red).
-If you are mouse panning in a bomber and then hop into a turret, you will continue mouse panning while in the turret and not have control of the turret till you disable the mouse pan. This is a problem if you are unaware you are being jumped on, panic switch to turret only to not have control and have a slower reaction time.
-If you enable mouse control (shift semicolon), then enable mouse panning on top of that, it works almost like the old way.... Until you hit escape to bring up the clipboard then it cancels all mouse control and panning defaulting back to cmdr.
-Probably my biggest complaint as a pilot... In a game that prides itself on being as accurate as possible, why on earth is there a "point over there" mode that just flies the plane.

I would appreciate no replies stating I need to fly with a joystick. I have a joystick and I do fly with it. I just don't always have my joystick. The old system was much more practical, elegant and efficient. It may be escaping me but I am unable to find any benefit to this cmdr mode.

Sincerely,
