New game pc
« on: January 13, 2017, 11:26:54 AM »
Just thought I would share...

I got one of these Tuesday after my game box quit working http://www.microcenter.com/product/473574/G427_Desktop_Computer Sure, it's a little more than I could have bought the parts for, and assembled myself, but my time is worth something, and it comes with a warranty.

It runs AHIII with all eye candy on, and paired with my Asus 144mhz monitor, I typically get frame rates between 60-130.  It's a beast....

Basic specs:
  • Intel Core i7-7700K Processor 4.20GHz
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5X VR Ready
  • 16GB DDR4-3200 RAM
  • 500GB SDD
  • 2TB 7,200RPM Hard Drive (RAID Ready)
  • Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
  • ASUS 24x DVDRW Drive
  • Multi-in-One Memory Card Reader
  • 10/100/1000 Network
  • 802.11ac Wireless

Looks great, someone will be along shortly to say they could have built it themselves for .75 cents less, lol

Ya, got that from a squaddie already.  Went on pcpartspicker and started pricing stuff out.  Wasn't near done, already had more than what I paid.  Sure, if I waited, couponed, price matched, and caught sales, in a few months I could have saved a few bucks, THEN I would have to assemble correctly...  Ya, I got it like a cave man.  Walked into store, killed it, brought it home and ate it, done....

Dang SCCA!

I thought I went big with this :

3.4 GHz processor, Geforce 1080, 16 GB hardware, 240 GB SSD and 1TB HD.

You went bigger!  I have no regrets about buying one ready out of the box.  Money well spent.  One mistake assembling the thing would have cost me much more than any money I could have saved by building it myself.

I know it's a big box store but I do business with Best Buy.  I've got a guy I have been going to for years that pays attention and knows a lot about gaming systems.  While I was talking to him about ordering my new tower he asked, "What are you going to run with this?".  I answered "NASA".......he didn't even hesitate saying, "That should work".

Congratulations SCCA, you're going to love it.

Mine runs without a hiccup with all the eye candy all the way up.  60 FPS under all conditions including the mass takeoffs in FSO.
Wag more, bark less.

Lol... Softail said I bought a sledge hammer to push in a tack :)

One of the reasons I went with this brand is that it's not a "brand". Many of the big name makers (Dell, Asus, HP) build their machines with proprietary hardware.  It makes it impossible to upgrade a single component.  Powerspec uses off the shelf, industry standard components so future upgrades will be simpler than my old Gateway.

^^ Agree.

Very nice system.  What Asus 144hz monitor you using, I have several, and had 3 others in triple screen (the 24" 144hz model from Asus) as well, so 6 so far, and I'll be getting their new one that is coming out soon too.

Would this be the model you have, by chance? You may have already said somewhere, but I don't remember and can't find if you did

If so, how do you like the color on it?

That's the one Joe, I don't have them anymore, I upgraded to a few various ROG Swift Asus 144/165/100 hz monitors of various sizes, but that IS the original "gaming 144hz" monitor from Asus, and it's still great, especially for the cost.  Color was OK, it's not an IPS panel, but it's as good as anything else in its class IMO.
