I was one of them proposing wishes for nighttime and more realism in game, (reflections of distant planes and such) And I was really happy coming back here after my 4 year leave and find this beautiful nightsky with known star constellations, instead of just random white dots in the sky. And I was really happy the other day when I noticed a white glimpse far away that turned out to be the sun reflection of a plane way beyond icon range. Small things, but it really gives depht to the game. So offcourse we shall have a nighttime in here! Anything else would be just wrong.

What you were referring to is a setting and not a bug. You can change the time to night time and then change the color of light to brighten up the night time but it's still a night sky.
