Howdy, GL's.

One of the duties of the GL is recruiting to your group.  It often doesn't just happen for you.  You have to go out there, network with people, and work at it.  If you are a GL, don't be lazy about this part of your job.  ;)

There are folks who already are masters at recruiting -- but if you want some suggestions, I do these things.

1.  I send a message on this message board to folks I know, something like:

"Howdy!  There's a scenario coming up in June, classic 8th AF vs. Luftwaffe in early 1944.  Would you be willing to fly 109's in it with me?  That would be great!"

2.  I look through past scenarios and see whom I flew with.  If I spot someone I think would be a good fit, I send that person the above message.  You can see who flew in past scenarios by looking at the event log for it on http://ahevents.net (although logs give handles, not message-board names -- so sometimes you have to search on the message board for the handle to see if you can figure out the corresponding board name).

3.  I go fly in the Main Arena.  When I see someone I think might be a good fit, I pm him the above message.

4.  I make a topic in the "Aces High General Discussion" forum, something like "I/JG 3 looking for 109 pilots for Big Week" or "Will you join me in 109's?" whatever, with the above message in it and a description of the event.

I get lots of folks saying, "Sorry, I can't make it", but I do get some folks saying, "That sounds like lots of fun.  Tell me more."  If they want more info, I tell when it runs (like 4 Saturdays in June), tell them the planes (p47's, p51's, p38's, b17's vs. 109's and 190's), tell them what it's like (strategic bombing with escorts), and make sure to ask again ("It'll be huge fun.  What do you say?  Will you fly 109's with me?").
