After installing W7 issues
« on: April 25, 2017, 09:29:22 PM »
After reinstalling W7, there two issues that I can't figure out how to solve.

1.  The mic, which has always been plugged into the front of the computer and worked fine, has quit producing any input in Range or Channel in game.  I've tried tuning to myself with nothing coming through.  I've checked the voice settings in game and tried different ones to no avail.  I've checked the sound configuration in the computer and can't get any settting to test with the mic.  Ive also check and found nothing muted.  All of the game sounds are working normally.

2.  Track IR has the latest software installed and works great in the software setup page.  In game it is inoperative.  I've gone into the VR setting, confirmed VR is unchecked and the Track IR enable relative motion box is checked.

DXDIAG attached.

Both of these have me stumped.  I'd appreciate some expert help figuring these out.  Thanks!

It does not appear the motherboard drivers are installed.

OK, thanks Skuzzy.  I'll work on that today.  Still learning to interpret the DXDIAG.  Which entry tells that information?

Down in the system devices section.  Look at the USB driver.  It should be an Intel driver.  Dell should have the drivers available for that computer, unless it is built into the operating system which came with the computer.

Supposing you'll find what you need here: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/xps-630/drivers

The System Analysis tool looks promising, but take it with a grain of salt. Can't tell about Dell, but for some other brands such tools don't seem to want to upgrade native Windows drivers.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

Thanks Bizman!  I appreciate you looking that up.  I've visited that site previously when trying to work ou the previous issue when in W10.  Hopefully, the resolution will be available there.

A question for you and/or Skuzzy.   When in game in the current configuration, the frame rate is in the 30-40 range.  Then after a random length of time, the frame rate will increase to the 55-60 range.  Is the that a function of not having the correct motherboard drivers, or something else?  Also, could the lack of correct motherboard drivers be the source of the non functioning mic and Track IR?

The game can take a minute, or two, to preload everything.  During that time the frame rate will not be stable.

Be sure to disable the "Superfetch" service in Windows 7 as it can eat up the CPU until it is done.

Hard to know what is going on until all the drivers are loaded.

Roger that!  Where is the Superfetch option located?  Thanks Skuzzy!

The Dell website has no chipsets listed for my computer, for other desktops/laptops yes.

After a scan of my computer, the Intel driver update utility states "No drivers were detected for your product."

Once again, I'm stumped.  Ideas?

Also did a BIOS update this morning.  Frame rate stability is vastly improved, running 58-60 most of the time.  Still no Track IR or transmit/receive voice, games sounds working normally.

Thanks!

What was the original operating system?  Do you have the OEM installation disc?  Did you install from a generic OEM Windows 7 copy?

W7. Yes, that's what I used when W10 would not low a roll back.

It is the original version of Windows 7 from Dell?  That should have contained all the drivers for the computer.
