Offline Lead Gunsight

I'm trying to get back into the rock and roll of AH again after an absence. New computer, Thrustmaster HOTAS, new fresh attitude,
Can someone advise on activating the lead Gunsight in offline mode?
I recall  shift tab to highlight and then tab to activate the green cross to start aimbot mode, but I  tried this again and failed.
I'm sure it's something simple and would appreciate the solution.

A couple other tips here, Threeup:

1) The LCG also works in the Training Arena.  In the TA you also see hits but cause no critical damage to your target, so you can partner up with someone who can give you a variety of more realistic shot angles and do more practice shooting at a live target. I'm a late-night US West Coast player, so if you see me online or want to PM me a time to meet up, I'll be happy to be a target drone in the TA while providing some gunnery feedback as well.

2)  Another trick you can use offline (in addition to the LCG) is to have Killshooter off and then go to Knights (I think the offline drones are always Knight, IIRC).  By flying on the same side as your target aircraft, the icon ranges will display distance in actual yards, instead of the D100-200 +/- icon ranges.  This can be useful if you want to learn to measure distance and lead with the gunsight reticle, for making lower off-angle shots precisely at your covergence range, as was done in WWII.  This kind of practice can make your shooting much more precise, and is particularly helpful for lighter armed AC, where firing at convergence can really make a difference.

Thanks Kingpin and my apologies for not replying sooner.

I adjusted as you said for offline practice and it works a treat. I'm much obliged for the information. I'll post elsewhere on this but two things occur to me;

The first is there is no comprehensive source of information. It's all really trial and error and word of mouth. The game really has leaped forward of the documentation, which is a pity. The steep learning curve got steeper as a result. If a move into Steam is being pursued, this will not assist. There's always the kid that learned to swim by being dropped in the pool. There's also others who got out and were afraid of water from then on.

I took a health break for a year and I'm not sure if my attitude has altered as a result of being faced with mortality or other circumstances have changed, but the community in general seems to be a lot more amiable now. There's always the "characters", but they seem to have either mellowed or moved on. The worst offenders have moved on thankfully.

Perhaps the game and the it's inhabitants have had a "wake up call".
