Lancaster FM213
« on: July 02, 2017, 03:10:52 PM »
I was just tooling around Oakville Ontario at an LCBO and I saw what looked to be an Avro Lancaster flying out over Lake Ontario. Did a quick search, and if what I saw was correct, it is one of only two flyable Airframes. Lancaster FM213 based out of a museum in Hamilton Ontario.

That would be correct and she is commonly known as "Vera" or due to her call sign painted on her VRA.

She is a beauty!!!

I've had the pleasure to see the Hamilton Lanc many times,a friend used to work there and would call me to let me know when they were getting her ready for the next flight/show.

Standing about 50 ft away listening to those 4 merlins is something to behold!! A few years back an old tail gunner would show up to listen to her, always shed a tear when I saw him!!

I had a flight on that Lanc in 1992 during a government inspection.....it was rebuilt by the Warplane Heritage in Hamilton, Ontario.......a lot of work went into it...amazing aircraft....haven't seen it since it was almost destroyed in a fire in 1993......:old:

after the Canadian lanc toured the UK airshows with the BBMF one they did challenge them to go across the pond in return so you never know it might happen.

That call sign is the squadron code letters and the a/c letter.

Chris don't miss the Air and Space Museum located at the old Rockcliffe air base.
