Sorry, I did not mean to give anything away to those who haven't seen it! Original comment deleted.

I haven't seen the movie, what about the gliding spitfire??  I don't know about fighters but here in AH buffs with no fuel and no bomb load will glide across countries, a long time.

Based on the change in angle of the sun he glided for roughly 4 hours at less than 1000 feet. Plus did a 180 an shot down a dive bomber.

I thought maybe he stayed up all night and waited for sunrise to land on the beach. 😂

Also Tom Hardy wasn't taught about lead deflection shooting. Kinda maddening.

Exactly!  I'm thinking, "shoot"  "shoot", but he waits until the target is in the center of the sight.

They should have had him train in AH for a few weeks.   :D

I said to my friend while exiting the movie theater:  "People in Aces High are going to be talking about the air-to-air gunnery and Tom Hardy's deflection shooting."  I kept pulling an imaginary trigger on my theater seat arm-rest every time he had the correct lead, only to have him hold fire to line up the pipper on the turning 109.

I was also thinking I would never have a 109 saddled on me that long without taking a ping in Aces High!   :)

For those of us playing this game for well over a decade, Aces High is more of a social club. The game just provides the framework. I keep logging in for the people and Pipz was the kind that you keep coming to meet again.

I suspect the lack of lead deflection is intentional.  We all kringe, but can you imagine what movie goers not familiar with aerial combat would feel if they saw Hardy constantly fire ahead of the target.  They'd be even more confused if the tracers "curved" to hit the target.  Most people think "line up target with gun-sight then fire".  General movie goers are not going to understand the fine points of inertially accelerating physics frames of reference.

That and the fact that most WWII pilots did not pull enough lead either.
