Attack on Pearl harbor

Greetings all, this setup is to test out some static
ships courtesy of Ghost dancer. this is a new pearl
harbor terrain so please, expect problems. its not
finished at this time.  jump in, blow stuff up
destroy ships, just let us know in the AVA forum,
how much bombs and what affects it had,
IE 1 torpedo killed 2 ships, that sort of thing.
please keep us aware of your frame rates and let
us know if thats a problem. PLease understand
this is a work and progress and weird things can
happen. thanks again to ghost dancer for the ships.

The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military
strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy
against the United States naval base at Pearl
Harbor, Hawaii, on the morning of December 7, 1941
(December 8 in Japan). The attack was intended as
a preventive action in order to keep the U.S. Pacific
Fleet from interfering with military actions the
Empire of Japan was planning in Southeast Asia
against overseas territories of the United
Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States.

What captain1ma said. ;)

Okay a little bit more I am interested on what your frame rates near battle ship row and Ford Island are. I have been clocking in the high 40s to low 50s.

Destroying one of the cruisers park next to another tends to make take out the other docked next to it via collateral damage. We have been able to sink a cruiser on battleship row via torpedo using CAs for some technical reasons and also since they are more a match to the old BBs of the time than the Iowa class) but interested to make sure that bomb hits that don't sink a cruiser take out some of its turrets (it should but need to confirm).

The terrain should be stable but instead of attaching the cruisers and destroyers to a BB or CV I made them field owned by the Port across from Ford Island. You should see an B4 base and BB icon there now instead of the Port. So just need numbers to more thoroughly test the terrain than I was able to do by myself.

Oh, and the auto AA on ALL the ships actually works. So Ford island really lights up when you come close to it.

Good hunting.

per captain1ma requests I have made a few changes and updated the terrain:

  • I have placed 5 DDs to the NE of Ford Island and 1 cruiser off by itself (U.S.S. Phoenix).
  • All ships are attached to P36 which is over on the SE corner of the map and invisible.
  • You will  now see B36 at Ford Island.
  • You will now see P4 at Pearl and its AA is mannable
  • A CA and DD have been placed near the docks of P4 to simulate ships docked there.
  • U.S.S. Oglala and Helena have been placed near P4.
  • Ford Island has 2 BMH at the SW tip with 3 A20s placed to simulate the PBYs.
  • On the NW side 2 BMH and 3 FH have been placed along with 6 F4Fs on the ground.

While adding some more FH and BMH on Ford Island as targets for you guy is good we still have to see what the possible smoke from them will affect your Frame Rates or not since there is so much going on around Ford. If people take a big FR hit then I will start pulling some out of the terrain.

Frame rate is 120 on the runway and hits 80 flying on the deck between the BBs.

Mostly pegged at 60 fps flying low over Pearl (no ack as I was Allied); drops to about 45 fps near the port, but that's the port's fault due to its plethora of trees.

(E8400, 8GB RAM, 2GB HD7870 graphics, Win 7, EM=0, shadows and reflection off, tree detail 50%, rest pegged max)

Thanks, hmm since we have lots of low action I jut might ring the whole harbor with grass texture to reduce the amount as trees as much as I can for you guys.

Can the fleet ack be scaled back a 'skosh' (doesn't have to be an extreme change)?

I'd like to see the fleet left alone unless we HAVE TO.

I'd need at least 5 other players flying in to score hits on the fleet, then. When all the ships fire on one craft then this scenario is just fly-n-die. Perhaps if true waves are flying in it will be more like ...well ... Pearl Harbor. :)

Nope, I found a way to skin just one player's plane with a big old bulls eye for the auto AA. Hmm, wonder who I put the bulls eye on ;)

Okay all kidding aside yeah, to attack battleship row going to need a couple of pilots unless lethality non-existent for the AA guns. Otherwise that storm of lead shreds a single plane as you point out.
