NVIDEA HD Audio Driver
« on: September 29, 2017, 10:53:44 AM »
I am using my motherboards audio which is Realtek HD Audio. When I upgraded my video card to a GTX 1070, Nvidea installed their Audio Driver and it is listed under installed programs. As I recall reading in the forum, the nvidea driver should be uninstalled because it may conflict somehow with AH.

Question: Should I just uninstall that driver in the control panels add/remove programs? Are any other action required needed to eliminate that potential conflict?

                 Thanks.          Av8.

True.  Anytime you update an Nvidia driver, you will have to deal with disabling/uninstalling their audio driver.
Even though you may select to not install it in the first place, it will still be there.
Don't forget to set your Realtek HD Audio to be the default playback device.  It will sometimes get changed.

Disable it first in the devices, then uninstall the driver.

When updating the Nvidia drivers (and any other programs/drivers), choose the Custom method and uncheck all the drivers and apps you don't need.

Works the same for AMD drivers as well................... I'll assume that Bizman meant disable it in Device Manager instead of in Devices (Win 10) as it kept reinstalling on my box when I disabled it in Devices until I disabled it in Device Manager. After disabling it there then following the rest of Bizman's instructions as given, clear sailing since.

Thanks for correcting, Device Manager is the place I meant.  :salute

And a good point about the AMD drivers.

For those who want to know things: If you just uninstall the drivers, they will be replaced by a generic Windows HD Audio driver. Every driver update will then recognise an Nvidia/AMD device and reinstall the brand specific ones. Disabling the device altogether makes it invisible for the system, thus eliminating an unwanted driver reinstall.
