Computer help
« on: November 25, 2017, 04:26:07 PM »
Alright not related to AHIII, but like many of you I play other games. Any of you tech guys have any idea what to do? Just read the below:

so I’m coming back to Arma after about a 3 month hiatus. I was running a co-op Mission last night with my unit, there were 40 of us, and I was getting anywhere from 30-50 FPS. Thanks to Black Friday I purchased a new monitor, an Asus VG245H. After setting it up today my FPS dropped drastically to around 10-20 FPS. With my old setup I was running the settings around high to ultra.

My old specs are here:

I have a GTX 1070 card, a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20 GHZ, 16GB of RAM, and 64 bit operating system.

My monitor is older, but here are it's specs:
Brand
Acer
Model
AL2016W Bb
Cabinet Color
Black

Display
Screen Size
20"
Widescreen
Yes
Maximum Resolution
1680 x 1050
Recommended Resolution
1680 x 1050
Viewing Angle
160° (H) / 160° (V)
Pixel Pitch
0.258mm
Display Colors
16.2 Million
Brightness
300 cd/m2
Contrast Ratio
800:1
Response Time
5ms
Display Type
WSXGA+

The new specs are the same, except the updated monitor.

Any ideas about the issue here? My drivers are all updated and everything. The ASUS monitor:

24"
Glare Screen   Non-glare
LED Backlight   Yes
Widescreen   Yes
Maximum Resolution   1920 x 1080
Recommended Resolution   1920 x 1080
Refresh Rate   75Hz

So if I understand correctly the only thing that changed was the monitor? If so, I'd try the old one to see if the FPS goes back up. That setup should not struggle in any modern game regardless of the monitor.

You did go from a lower resolution monitor to a higher one, but I can't see that as having such an impact on performance.
That 1070 should run AHIII on very high settings with no problem @ 1920 x 1080.

Yeah the resolution I thought of but that slight change shouldn't make a difference, not like going from 1080p to 2K or 4K...maybe check GPU-Z to see how hot the 1070 is getting under load?

Just in case -- you are sure you plugged the hdmi cable into the card instead of the motherboard's hdmi connector, correct?

Also, did you open the case at all?  If so, any possibility you unplugged the power connector to your graphics card, or moved anything that interferes with the graphics-card fan?

Glad you found the answer! As you supposed, the GTX1070 shouldn't struggle at those resolutions.

However, the monitor change you made isn't as small as it first looks. The increase in resolution is 17.55% which isn't too much. But adding the 25% increase in refresh rate to that could easily put a weaker card to its knees. I can't calculate the combined increase in the need of resources but my family assured me that in any case it would be more than either of the elements alone but less than their sum, i.e. more than 25% but less than 45%.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

I know off topic

I still need exact revenge on BFOOT for his shooting me down in the last SEC :old:

The fact he plug his hdmi cable into his mother board indicates he is of feeble mind and will be a easy kill :rofl

Brooke is awesome  :)
