DD M-4 Amphibious Sherman
« on: December 05, 2017, 08:03:48 PM »
The M-4 tank object itself is already created and modeled.  Just need to give it the same coding as the LVT for floating and propeller drive while in water.

It would add a more lethal punch to amphibious landings than the LVT4, plus be more survivable.  It could help break shoreline camping, and aid base taking.

Something to remember,

When the rubber skirt is raised, you can't see to shoot..
And you can sink a DD Sherman, with a machinegun..

Just sayin!

+1 for a realistic way to put tanks over the beach tho!
LCT that holds 6 tank/gv would be the way to go!

I wouldn't even bother with the skirt.  That would complicate it too much.

There is a great pic on google images.. Search 'Dieppe Raid LCT'

Shows an LCT Mk1 sunk at the waters edge, ramp down, burning..
And several Churchill tanks bogged down and destroyed on the beach..
Sweet pic, taken right after the battle!

LST's are kinda big, seems a bit out of scale for the game..
And they would never beach an LST under enemy fire..
Too much to risk that way..

Yes, of course, but this is a game and the coder can accomplish anything.  I'd rather see the DD M-4 in the game without a skirt than not in the game at all, if the stumbling block was the skirt.

Although you can code in a drop tank and choose it from the hangar, and jettison the thing while in flight.  Maybe it's not so hard.

And I suppose you can make a skirt in AC3D, and submit it for approval.  And skin it.  And then code it to jettison.

Oh I'm sure they could write any code they want.. LOL, They could write code to make it sprout wings and fly too! But there is a historical accuracy aspect to this game ya know??

Why would they add a DD Sherman without a skirt, it wouldn't be able to swim then?  :headscratch:

So you are saying, make it swim without the skirt, and to heck with that pesky realism thing?

And then, with a realistic damage model, while swimming, a red guy could simply spray you with a .30cal machinegun, and blub blub blub, down ya go.. That would be some easy Jeep kills.. I wonder how many perks you'd get for killing a Sherman with a few rds from a Jeep MG?

I was more anxious to just get the DD M-4 rolling.  I can make the skirt in AC3D and skin it.  I'll forward it to them and see if they want to roll it up together.
