You really think someone who enters a paid for tournament isn't adult enough to accept defeat if they lost?

Is there any money in being adult about it?  :old:

Some who are relatively sure to win might sign up, and the rest will be completely clueless noobs from steam. This isn't going to get interesting in any way. Neither to take part in, nor to watch, nor to bet on such matches (most will bet correctly on most matches).

when money is on the line people will goto extreme levels to win it. Iracing is a prime example in my opinion you got people over there with $20,000 sim pits and telemetry programs reading every imput you make so you can go back and figure out what to fix for the next time.  it wont be long before you got that stuff here doing the same thing. i may b 100% wrong but i doubt it

Why is it anyone’s concern how much someone spends on their game equipment?

Another note. You all are shooting down an idea before it has ever started. In reality the community against is part of the issue. Sometimes change is good. Get over it. It’s a FREE buy in. NOTHING to lose.

I'm not shooting down the idea for what it is, I just don't see this helping build the subscription base and that what this game needs right now.

HTC has spent weeks working on this. I just think the time and money could be better spent. Players like you wont see a problem with this type of addition, but you guys are the upper 1 percent. For the rest of us I doubt most will even bother looking in to it never mind participate in it.

I would agree with you it would not generate new players and i also see this backfire as in poison and rage quits. But for us more competitive payers its a fun addition to the game. I do not consider myself to be in the top 1%, rather the top 25%.

But whats done is done.

The next feature i like to see is a better way to come into contact with new players. (this week i ran into two. One we absorbed in our squad and the other i spend 3 hours with in the training arena) (this also shows they still come in but they go largely unnoticed)

In all reality a lot of the top 1% rarely plays. I think I logged maybe 10 hours in the last 2 months?  I also don’t play at all over summer months as I have other activities. I actually see it working out for the average player more times than not. Don’t knock it till ya try it.

There could even be “Tiers” of tournaments ranking in how competitive each one was. IE: Call one expert, intermediate, and beginner. Put yourself where you see fit.

:rofl  Suddenly, everybody is a "beginner".

If some kind of ranking system were implemented, sandbagging (or what's the online game term, smurfing?) is just one of the things people would do.

For one thing, it's going to generate all kinds of drama.  Just look at what happened with the SDL.  There was no money at stake there.  It's only going to be worse with this.

More importantly than the drama, this is only really a benefit to the top 1%ers.  There are about a couple dozen people who would have a reasonable chance of taking a dueling tournament unless they happen to really play over their head on the day.  It seems to me it's a bit more important at the moment to bring in new people than to encourage vets to play.

Now someone new might see "Cash Prize!" and join because of that, but if winning tournaments is the reason they're here, unless they're some kind of savant they're likely to just get crushed and quit.  If that's the reason they're here, they're also not terribly likely to get involved with the community because the other people are potential opponents that could take the win away from them.

I'm just not seeing a lot of upside to it for anybody other than the top echelon people who've been here for a long time.

You guys remember the handles NewU12345  :D

How are we talking about a 1% in a video game? Jesum crow.

Why are people so determined to believe they will never get better or have a chance at winning?

The more good people there are, the harder it is for only 1 or 2 persons to win.

Game modes should be promoted.

Special events should be promoted.

And I think one thing that will really bring "new players" to try the game, is a super bad arse, high intensity, high action, screaming opening video on the website and steam site. Wish I new how but I don't.

Stop talking about a 1%. It's a fallacy in a Video game. Who is holding you back from getting better?
