Windows 10 Insider Preview [Beware Build 17074]
« on: January 16, 2018, 12:20:06 PM »
Just a heads up for anyone that's in the Windows Insider Program.  Build 17074 has messed up a lot of peoples audio/microphone functionality.
I was able to get audio playback working by just installing audio drivers for my MOBO.
The microphone is completely broke.  Microsoft if aware of this problem.  Bug Fixes & Known Issues.

I don't believe this issue is related to yours, as this bug completely disables any audio input (Mic/Line Input) within Windows.  It also breaks the camera as well.
Microsoft are working on a fix.

For Anyone having the problem of your audio inputs/camera being disabled in Windows, Microsoft released a work around that is working for now.
"Note: This is only for folks using Windows Insider Preview Build 17074 and are having their audio inputs not being detected by Windows".
Run an elevated command prompt/powershell and type reg.exe add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\CapabilityAccessManager\ConsentStore\microphone /v Value /d Allow /f

You may simply copy the blue text above and paste it into an elevated command prompt/powershell.
I have tested this on Build 17074.1002 that was released yesterday and it instantly fixed my Mic/Line-Input issue.

Source of temporary fix.  Scroll all the way down to Known Issues.
