Flight model accuracies
« on: January 20, 2018, 01:26:15 PM »
Really not trying to troll or start an endless informal fallacy circle-jerk amongst forum members here but is it the case or is it not that HTC will address evidence suggesting certian aircraft need examining with regards to flight modelling? Or is some element of in-game balancing mixed in with the flight modelling?

I'm asking this before I dedicate hours to researching some leads only to have it end up as seed on stoney ground. That's triply frustrating. I'd rather be honestly told not to bother.

Your best bet would be to contact HTC directly and ask them if they would accept any resources you dig up.

You would think really that the forum would be the right place to present & peer review. It would be nice to have an official answer to the bolded part for the record.

My impression has always been that the flight modelling is so good that it is beyond reproach.  I seem to remember Dobs and associates tried to get into it but nothing came of it.

Valid criticism is rare but welcome. There is efficiency and magic in the flight model but I believe aircraft performance is as accurate as Hitech can make it.

Remember that maneuver that some P-51 ace did and it was aired in an episode of "Dogfights"?  Then we were able to replicate it in Aces High.  It's where you stall the mustang and it literally turns 180 degrees to face the opposite direction.

I always thought that was pretty cool that we were able to replicate a real life flight phenomenon in Aces High.

Agreed.  And HTC is amenable to consider new reliable sources.  We had that, in some detail, when the Brewster first came out.  The Finns came up with a boatload of data which supported its present performance (but only for the Finn version!), and HTC amended the flight model accordingly.

HTC has lots of flight-test data.  For data to override something they already have, it would need to be more credible than what they already have.

Anecdotal evidence and information from web pages that don't give references is not very useful.  If you found substantial flight-test data on whatever your subject is, though, maybe that would be.

But I doubt anyone could tell you in advance.  Folks would need to see what you come up with.

FLS, Brooke,

I, too, used to have problems vastly overstating and misrepresenting other people's opinions.  Then I got Dr. Language's comprehension lozenges.  Just one per day is all it took, and now I don't have that embarrassing problem!  They come in grape and strawberry.  Try them today!  :aok

Nobody has raised an issue.

Instead of wasting time on the mere possibility of an unstated issue being addressed you could just state the possible issue and get some useful feedback.

You can still benefit from their advice at Warbirds.

If you have a valid source (not cherry picked data) which conflicts with the data we have, then let us know the source.
