Your car has a mirror why not just take it out you can just look back.
Why is the mirror there just to check your lipstick?
The human eye is attracted to movement the mirror looks back 100% of the time. Even a dot moving in the mirror against a blue sky will attract your attention. It adds another level of SA.
The addition of a mirror if done correctly will not affect frame rates on most of the machines today; being the area displayed is very small. Planes in DCS have the mirror with the option to turn it on or off. On the machine I am using it causes no loss in frame rate. I use it mostly on ground attack missions in the P51 to confirm hits on ground targets, and to stop those pesky 109’s and 190’s from trying to sneak up from behind.

If the WWII plane had them then they should be there and the choice should be up to the pilot whether to use them or not.

WWII airplanes had them because turning your head around and moving your body to see behind you took time. In the game however, you can scan 360 degrees in two planes faster than you could possibly turn your head. A frivolous addition that would be turned off as soon as the novelty wore off.

Iracing is a CPU based program I guess like good old ah2.  You would think it would hit the cpu hard but I run two mirrors, a virtual mirror, and in Ford GT 2017 , a rear facing camera.  Works really well.

Different game engine.

Remember the aircraft that had/used mirrors in Air Warrior?

iirc, One would have to get use to the view being reversed opposite of the way mirrors work.... I believe that is how it worked if I am remembering right....

It's been so long ago, but I know AW had mirrors....

The only reason to have mirrors in Aces High, would be for the "More Realistic" effect of the plane models.... I don't see where anyone would use them in this day and time.....with TrackIR and VR 3D capability....

IIRC, the only way to use a mirror in Air Warrior was as a specific view (i.e. entirely replace the normal back view).  There was an option for the rear view to be either reversed (mirrored) or to be shown as if the pilot was actually looking backwards.  Since you didn't have head movement, a mirror was simply implemented by using a mask and graphics to show the rear view as if you were looking in a canopy-mounted mirror.

You might try the method some of the self proclaimed elitists use and set up a mirror on top of your monitor.
