Hello Spikes,

Not digging the jets in this setup because I know what a few of them can do to a large bomber mission at those alts.  Just the other day 3 of the swine in deuces intercepted tight formation of 6-7 sets of B-17's with 5+ pony escorts.  Bombers were at 20k and escorts were 26k+.  There was nothing the escorts could do except follow us around.  We suffered two smoked engines for our hard work.  My .02 cents.  I will get the Pigs updated in the next few days.

It is very difficult to balance jets in FSO, pretty much impossible really.

With only 4, it represents a small amount of the Axis force, but they are worth nearly an entire set of bombers, or 7-8 fighters if brought down. Also keep in mind this will be with 24 sets of bombers and 60+ fighters. :)

Why no D-40's?    Given the axis plane set, it looks pretty good.   Allies have to take 51B's and 24 buff's.    I'm just curious why no D-40's.   They were in service in Sept 44.

Thanks

We can look into it. Can you please cite your source?

JDOG,

I tried to find instances where the D40 was providing high altitude escort at this time, but I was coming up short. It seemed if anything they were in a low alt ground attack role. As perdweeb said, if there is some evidence that this happened I would be all for it, in fact I wanted to give the option of D25/D40 but just could not find evidence.

Just looking for some "balance"   If we are not allowed that then that's fine.   You admit they were indeed there, and their service dates back that fact.  It is what it is.

Thanks for reply

I have not found evidence of a D-40 in action in Sept. 1944. Maybe the D-28 and D-30 which would be a decent sub. But, these aircraft were in the 9th Air Force in October and trucking bombs. However, if you have some sources (my Allied library is limited), we would be more than happy to oblige.

You can look here if you wish:  http://www.368thfightergroup.com/368-timeline-w.html

However as Spikes already pointed out they were trucking bombs by then, their escorts roles were prior to your time line for this setup.   It's fine, I got an answer.

FWIW, I never demanded they be there, I simply asked why they were not, and a simple answer was all I was interested in.   I was not looking for a " prove it or it didn"t happen" match with you.

I could say the same for P-38's, but chose not to.   The setup is written, and I really never expect change with allied airframes in any setup.

I simply asked why.

Thanks

I was in no way trying to argue. I apologize if that seemed the case. I know my limits and Allied service dates on the Western Front is limited for me. I was simply asking for a source in order to make this a better and more accurate setup. As a grad student, I have to bend to superior sources and acknowledge many different sources. This event focuses on the 8th Air Force, so we ignored 9th. We are always willing to tweak the setup if it helps balance the setup or adds accuracy. This is why we post it two weeks prior to Frame 1. We feel it is balanced because of the potential large number of P-51D and lack of 190D.

am I understanding the scoring correctly?

Min 12 & 12 for bombers, formations off equal 144 points if all minimums are lost.  With formations off, we lose significant defensive firepower. . .

If allies take out all the 262's, that's worth 60 points only???   Please tell me I can't do maths....  This scoring setup scares my allied fanny...
