This early Hawker Typhoon was flown by 182 Squadron RAF while based at Martlesham Heath on the east coast of England in late 1942. Typhoons of this period sported a number of different ID markings designed to prevent the aircraft being mistaken for a Fw190A. These included a white nose, yellow stripes on the upper wings and black and white stripes on the lower wings. All these markings were soon deleted, although similar black and white stripes would be applied during the second half of 1944 for D Day.
