I've seen reports at least one of the F-15s exceeded mach. Is that usual in these type of intercepts?

I don't think it's unusual considering at the time the lack of information, intention, and threat level. The F15's came out of Portland and had to travel over 100nm in less than 10 minutes. Considering the Dash 8 was dinking around at lower altitudes it wouldn't be surprising for an F15 to exceed Mach to get up there.

I think they usually do when they need to get there quickly to check something out.

What's a standard intercept?

Go here:  https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2013/december/flight-training-magazine/intercept-procedures

I fly into the FRZ around Washington DC, so I'm acutely conscious of intercept procedures.  We had an F-16 pilot from New Jersey give us a talk once about how things look from the interceptor's perspective.  I no longer remember the exact numbers, but he said something like this:  "There are 32 steps between the time you violate the airspace and the time you're shot down.  By the time we see you, you're already two-thirds of the way through those steps."

I also fly through a low-level military training route in central Maine.  I asked him if, given the speed of his plane, he would have time to avoid me.  He said that wasn't a problem.  On his way to saying that, I think he stopped himself from saying that he was probably already targeting me, for authentic practice.

What's a standard intercept?

There will be a minimum of two fighters.  One will be seen by the target, the other will be on an unseen perch.

In a real active air scramble like this event, the fighters were most likely directed to get there ASAP, considering the magnitude of the possible threat.  From Portland to the Seattle area, it would be a short flight over the Mach.  It’s approximately 113 miles from Portland to Seattle.  At Mach 1, 10 miles per minute is covered.  If it were me, and the command authority directed ASAP, I wouldn’t be doing only Mach 1.

“Usual” doesn’t exist during an active air scramble.

For the life of me I cant remember his callsign at the moment but it will come to me. I do remember his real name was Rich. He was 24 last time we played together lived up in the Northwest at the time. Having heard the audio it is exactly the same guy.  Same sound, exact same personality.

He only flew Bish.  Loved the logistics side of the game and winning the war. He was notorious for sneaking vbases behind enemy lines by himself. His favorite plane was an LA-7. If anyone could listen to that audio and try to remember the callsign I would greatly appreciate it.

Having explained to tower he had a good grasp of how to fly the plane from playing video "games" he most likely had this planned for awhile. Its nothing to download that plane for FSX and learning everything one would need to know to get that thing started and keeping it in the air as long as he did.

Link is to the audio for anyone who hasnt listened.

Uh oh. Real flight training has already been heavily regulated since 9/11, at least in some parts of the world, to prevent future terrorist from getting trained. Video games will be next.

Did he crash or did the F-15 following him shoot him down?  See video.  The F-15 is clearly visible.

Putin trump or the fat bloke from North Korea are to blame or maybe he was triggered or did not have a safe space.

Hopefully they will make sure in the future the public are safe, but having a investigation into the mental state of the clowns pocket is a waste of money, he was a dik and Darwin’s law of natural selection came into play.

I wonder if he has a decent flight sim setup which will go on eBay?

My guess, he watched "How it Ends" before his shift and  still in trance, tried to escape Seattle.
