Thanks TC. 3 pages only one offering help.
For the record I called release notes updated after I call.

But, all the poking fun rudness really "speaks volumes" about our community.

XP can be upgraded to 7 Pro. As long as you can locate drivers you should be ok. Since M$ does not support 7 Pro you may have to search for updates/SP packages to make it more secure.

If you're going from XP to Win7, going to 64 bit is a no brainer so you at least have a chance of running the DX11 version........provided you have a gpu that is DX11.

It will "keep you in the game" longer than Win7 32 bit.

I meant XP being "reinstated" in AH3. I understand the reasoning its a very old OS for 2018.

...going to upgrade to Windows 10. I knew I needed to do an OS upgrade a few years ago...but I just couldn't quite get there.

Cya up there Twinboom.  :salute

Windows 10 does not support older hardware.  If your computer is more than 4 or 5 years old, best check to see if it is supported before getting Windows 10.

Squire, not knowing what you have for a PC....... I would recommend win 7 Pro SP1 64 bit or win 8.1 Pro 64 bit

I would shy away from windows 10, unless you want to go through trial and error and headaches

I don't know TC.  The last update to Windows 10 did a good job of freeing up a lot of hard drive space.  Of course, it that by wiping out all your ZIP files.  The one before that could wipe out all your C:\user files.

Microsoft seems determined to free up disk space.  I am sure they will get it all worked out. :)

Caldera, Win 95 really?   That is funny.

I just put Win 10 on an old laptop that is more than 10 years old. I put in a SSD and all it has
is 2 gigs of memory. It runs really fast. It has a pent dual core cpu and I did not install any motherboard drivers.

Ok, if that is the case, what are the specs besides the Pentium D?

Some current gen stuff can be had for good prices:

Even with this setup, some corners can be cut to drop the price by a couple hundred.

If budget really is an issue, something like the "Dell Precision T1650 Xeon Quad Core E3-1240 V2 @ 3,4GHz 8GB 500GB DVD±RW" which a German used workstations vendor is selling for €235 incl. 20% VAT might solve most issues. Most likely those include either a sticker for Windows 7 or an electronic license for Windows 8, both of which can be used to install a free copy of Windows 10. For what I've experienced Intel based computers take W10 without issues, at least those with an i#-#### processor i.e. dating from 2010 and up. Used corporate workstations like that are being sold worldwide.

If the old XP rig has a PCI-e video card, that could easily be transferred over. If it still has an AGP card, there's plenty of cards both new and used that don't need extra power and will outperform any AGP card.

I'm not saying that the above would be ideal, but something like that would run AH without compatibility issues.

seeings how both of my Daughters and I write poetry and I myself compose music and create new riffs, etc... I've always had the tendency to "Over Build" my computers, especially since I also had to work with different versions of AutoCAD  (which any Intel system I know of, never out performed an AMD system, because of math calc rate)..... the company I worked for in the late 90's were pushing using 64 gb of Sys Mem back then using the PAE, etc..most here don'y even know what I am talking about....

If people would just go research, read the comprehensive studies of results, and learn how to tune, tweak and clean their dang PC's... then they would never have no problems, most likely...and if they did, they would be easily remedied...

I know Skuzzy is older than me, but we are getting to old to keep trying to teach the younger generations of how damn easy it is to keep a computer running way past it's hay day, etc...

This is not a beoch, this is a dang near 30 year playing fool trying to tell all of you how simple it is to keep the game going...

hope some might see the light

When I switched to Win. 10 about half of my programs would not run in Win. full version of 10...Windows has a web page where you can search and see if a program you have will run in 10. If you upgraded  from 8 to 10 there is an option to run the program in 8 and not 10.... When I built this machine for this game I bought a new windows 10 and there was no option to run programs in 8 so I have to use those programs on the old machine I have... the price of progress I guess.

LOL Skuzzy... I read your reply as being sarcastically funny towards MS's Windows 10 updates

Is what I was referring to regarding trial and error and/or headaches, haha

When I decided to go with MS's LTSB version of  10, the way they explained/described it to the MS Insiders was that we would have full control over what we allowed to run or not, but that didn't last very long

After what I experienced my Windows 10 enterprise LTSB version by taking control of my Windows XP, Windows 7 ultimate and Windows 8.1 Pro OSes, having to spend 3+ months going through each OS just to be sure that all were back to how they were before the Windows 10 install....really pushed me over the edge about Window 10....

I built a switchbox with 4 toggle switches to engage/disengage certain partitioned hard drives that hold multi-boot OS setups and highly expensive software.... Music compositions, let alone family genealogy research and stuff

I could not afford to lose my stuff (software, etc) that I can't replace now that I'm disabled and on fixed income...

BTW, I mistyped earlier 64 GB system ram.... We were only up to 24 GBs.... But our computers and graphics cards we used with our AutoCAD, HVAC&R load calculating and designing and Thermodynamics software was so much more demanding than one's average home PC

As far as the patch update and other people's killing / wrecking the game

I had to do 2 patches back to back from 3.04 to 3.04 patch 1 then to patch 3

From start to finish and logging in to the game took my system and isp connection less than 3 1/2 minutes

Guess I got lucky
