Bombsight Calibration X 2 ?

So, you've calibrated your sight steady for 10 seconds; then, just before drop, you want to fine tune for 3 seconds.  Does the 3 second calibration erase the 10 second calibration?   ...or improve it?

I would say erase it. Each calibration is a setting for the speed and alt at the time of calibration.

Surely resets it.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that even a second calibration run that is as long as the first one yields worse results than the initial calibration would have provided.

For me, it just depends. while the second cal will always be the current calibration and nulls the first calibration. Mulitple re calibrations do not always or even come close to being worse than the first.

I will often calibrate shortly after going level and then wait until my speed has normalized and calibrate again. When I have the target in sight (pilot view) I will perform a final calibration. I usually count 20 Mississippi before my drop.

Second calibration replaces first one. You can see that when your second calibration is too short - you won't fall back to number #1's data, it's just invalid.
But if you just enter calibration mode and exit it again without actually calibrating (holding down Y), you will just update your altitude information.

TEShaw,  Your final calibration should be when your climb in E6B is a steady 0.  I will calibrate earlier once just to get the bombsite functional when the climb in E6B is not 0.   you can usually work the throttle to decrease climb to get to 0.

This doesn't sound as if it is intended?  It allows to reuse a calibration for a certain speed at a different altitude? (Not that this is very useful...)

The key is to adjust your speed to match the calibrated, not the other way around. fly at a speed 10-20 mph below your top speed. do the calibration and then adjust your speed to match the calibrated speed. That way you only need to do one calibration and you will do the fine tuning with your throttle instead.

If you want to do more than one drop you can jump into a gunner position and use the rudder to turn, that way you will maintain your speed and altitude (+/- wind).
