We were asked this a time or two. Axis aircraft that do not return to their original field do not receive the +2 Landing Bonus, correct? The only literature we found on it was the Survival portion in scoring and that all aircraft must be landed by T+120. So, we assumed that if an Axis pilot did not land at his/her launch field, he/she did not receive the +2 bonus points but still received points for kills. Is this correct?

Couldn't help but notice all the damage at Willhelshaven was ammo factory. Last time I was on a bomber mission there we were told only port facilities would count.

Your aircraft is a ditch and there is also no landing bonus. So you lose 7 pts. You don't just lose the landing bonus. In fairness I should have put that in there but its always been the case for scoring if the CM says "you must rtb to this base" and you don't...there is obviously going to be a penalty. The whole idea behind it being that you RTB to the base your supposed to. The usual penalty for the above has always been your plane is considered ditched in friendly territory.

I respect that Squire, but the field the axis had land at for a successful landing was 9 sectors away. Players who didnt leave the fight with 30min left didnt even make it back. I was one of them. Perhaps we could make that landing base a little closer?

At some point in the mission its time to RTB. That's just the way it is. For both sides.

But should that point really come with 45 minutes left in the frame?

That's the reality of the positions of the home fields.

9?  I would take 9.  I have to plan for 12+ sectors of flight and recovery this week on 4 different airframes and one of them really has no business going the full route and another of them barely makes if it sees minimal to mid level combat.  I landed my P38 Frame with 7 minutes to spare Frame 1.  Frame 2 with about 11 minutes.  Safe landings can be done with time/fuel management.  You guys have droppers too don't ya?  :headscratch:  Another suggestion is to fly out meet the bombers.  The last two frames I have found the defenders at within a half sector of the target.  Would give you more engagement time.

Except that the logs do not support your claim.

In Frame 1 your squad was attacking Bremen and you encountered the first squad of Bremen defenders(Unforgiven) at about T+35. Kn and LCA was next in on the bomber stream at about T+40-45. This engagement occurred 50 miles out from Bremen. So in frame 1 to saw 75% of all the defenders of your objective 50 miles out within 45 minutes of launch.

In Frame 2, Kn was the first to engage the bomber stream targeting  ammo strat in 9,13,9. Our first attack was on the escorts over the stream in 7,14,8. Again this was about 50 miles out at about T+45. Your squad was attacking the other objective, so I don't know how those squads were set up, but for mine the combat began 2 sectors from the target.

In both cases KN's first contact came at a point close to the mid point between out take off field and the closest Allied air spawn. The routes taken were more or less strait. There was no patrolling in a given area.

The Pigs have been the First planes into the northern area the last two frames well ahead of the bombers.
Mine eyes tell me the truth-Frame 1 we were three 38's that flew through the group of 190s just two keypads east of the target, then through another group basically right over target, then some 109's that followed us over target as we proceeded past the target and found the 410s NE of target and proceeded a tail chase in a counter clockwise slow power dive.  None of the defenders were out when we arrived.  Mind you they may have moved out after my three 38's arrived, but not before.  We got there really fast.  As did Lilmak's group.  The first group of 190's turned south immediately upon seeing us (unsure of squadron), second group scattered a bit then dove north (again unsure of squad).  I dare say most were well within the coverage of their own puffy ack.

Frame 2-We bulled in again on the northern attack to the port with 38's.  This time defenders learned not to hang out and moved out to the NE away from the target.  Still found them and tangled them up prior to bombers arrival.  Good chunk of the 9Giap B17's made it home after drop.

Frame 3-Hope to see you guys halfway! :aok

32 where I landed would have been a little more reasonable. 9 was still 5 sectors away lol. Is this Aces High or Microsoft flight simulator?

Looked at the logs. In frame 1 the B-17s were engaged at @T+30. In frame 2 they were engaged at @T+40. So by T+85 you have been fighting each other for a good 45min to an hour.

Just as was the case in the actual air war...escorts have to watch their fuel to RTB...and interceptors have to RTB as well...they cannot chase the bombers clear across to the coast of Dover. They would end up in rafts looking out for SAR Dornier 24s to pick them up. P-51s can't dogfight until they only have 25 gallons left because they would have to ditch in Holland.

As for the placement of the Axis bases...if they are too far forward they get the Allies spawning above them. They have to be back a bit to give you guys some room to manuever. I could have had them a bit closer...every setup is different but I do take your point.

Lastly there isn't time in a setup like this two have a second sortie. I wish there was but there isnt. Not with strategic bombers. In Pacific setups like the Solomons you can get frames with fighting until T+100 sometimes. It's nice when you can get it.

Anyways.   :salute

Forgot about this post. It's a late correction but here it is. Perdweeb was correct in that the only penalty incurred would be the loss of the 2 pt landing bonus. In an event that you set down on a non-start field. It's a friendly territory ditch. The event was also scored that way when I did it up. Just FYI.  :salute
