The situation
« on: March 04, 2019, 10:09:22 PM »
I posted this on another thread but I think it probably got lost in the depths of comments/etc.

Either a game is relevant and grows (gains population).

Or

A game is no longer relevant and dies (loses population).

Game companies for years have reimagined and revitalized their games to stay relevant, there are methods and techniques for it that are documentable over the years.

What does AH need to do to get back to that relevancy?

I had a thought that maybe HTC is attracting too many hardcore players and making the community rigid and stern. Whereas if HTC circled their product around a more casual population like airshow goers/magazine readers/Historical interested people/etc it would bring some of that light and fun approach to the community and breathe some enjoyment back into it. Not saying the game isn't fun, its just not as fun as it could be.

I did, and I liked it. But isn't that just a implementation of the really old tour of duty that HT worked up almost a decade ago?

Im talking like "Battle Royale" relevant, since its the new trend and edgy (Just an example). I wonder what the next trend/relevant gameplay is next...

No it's nothing at all like Tour of Duty. It's exactly what you described.

When you tried WO:P and liked it did you notice that one of the game choices was Battle Royale?

With all due respect this subject has been beaten to death countless times in the past few years. Many, many suggestions have been put forth by the player base. A few have been implemented; most have not and it's pretty much Hitech's call as to what he does and doesn't want to do with the game at this point.

I don't find a discernible change in player numbers from a year or two ago. It's a given that #'s are down from the peak days of 2008-2009.

I'll continue to pony up my $15 @ mo until I grow tired of the game. Hopefully Dale has a few more tricks left in his hat. We'll see.

Oh. By 'relevant' you mean 'trendy.' Kinda like when Coca Cola changed its recipe.

Besides marketing, which Hitech has tried Airshows and all of that. The main issue once a player gets going is the time it takes to get to the enemy and then fight and die. Most gamers today do not have the patience for AH, which is why WOP has been created. I've always thought a great fast action arena would help, but it has to be easy to understand for new players.

IMO, it's really about certain things that I've noticed over time. Ganging, hoarding, too many runners, too much "lame" game play and the same old maps. So when I come up with ideas, it's mostly concerning those issues. Many of my ideas like fixing ENY and making more perk planes would go along way to curtailing this issue. Putting bases closer and making paths of action would make it less time consuming to find fights and action. Less runner planes would make fights better. You will always have hoarding, and ganging, but closer back bases would make it easier to fight the hoards. Maps that allow all 3 sides to fight each other at the same time work well. Would like to see this but not be a fighter town. Making the radar harder to kill per base would greatly help. These small things would encourage more fights, put more people in the fighting area, and will encourage the use of planes that cannot run very easily. I think this would go a long way in helping the fights and action. I mean when you have a Yak3 getting the 3rd most kills, with a higher than avg K/D and it's a 18 eny plane compared to the 20 eny P51B that gets 1/10th the kills. You have to ask yourself why, and why it hasn't been modified? That's what makes so many players aggravated.

Less 190Ds and Yak3s and more 190a5s and Yak9s. That's what is going to make better action in the MA.

Coca cola has totally changed their recipe: "Coca" stood for cocaine and "Cola" is a not very well known plant (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kola_nut). Coca cola is recipe by name only these days.

You do realize that Coca Cola isn't as popular as it was before the change, right?  :D

From the context he uses 'relevant' to mean 'popular'. Trendy implies new, so new and popular.

In other words he's asking for the game to somehow be more fun by somehow changing something to make it easier for less serious players.
Which is what WO:P is, it even has a Battle Royale option.

I`ve been dabbling in fortnite, my kids got in to it so I thought I should check it out.
We play together which is fun, and like this game the learning curve is steep..super steep.
there are many sweaty try hards that whip my butt.. but i still have some fun,
mainly by getting by, and doing challenges, each week.
It gives a little focus on stuff and is also a little like training..also I achieve something, (mini win) and feels good.
May be new guys, or all of us would benefit from weekly challenges, kill 5 radars, bomb cv, hit AAA strats dwn 30%, kill 5 gvs etc etc.for perk points? or something.. could use the star thing but per month, in conjunction with acheivements.. I dont know, spitballin.. but maybe it can help newer guys get more out of the game than just getting  :ahand by our elite sweaty try hards.. again and again.

No flame here! Thats a good idea! Heck, if allowed...I would pony up for some prizes. That might take a lot of work, to eliminate fraud/set up fair competition but I am game if we could work out some details! It would be a GREAT way to increase my own personal game play fun. Only as good as the competition and more folk means better opportunity :aok
