Early & Mid-War Plane Sets
« on: June 29, 2019, 12:16:25 PM »
Anyone happen to have a list of the plane sets for the old Early and Mid-War main arenas? I used to have screenshots of them from the hanger but lost the files when a hard drive crashed. I'm considering putting up an arena similar to those once in a while. A few players have expressed an interest to me in flying them.

Thanks Arlo; that's just what I was looking for.
Thanks for the info on the early war perked planes Lusche, I believe the Typhoon was the only perked aircraft in Mid-War. Does that sound right?

It's the only one I remember being perked, but I didn't play in MW as much as I did in EW.

Spit8 had a small perk price in MW. I think 5.

Quite honestly, you could do better with a custom planeset. No reason for the P-51B to be in MW and the F4U-1 is also a bit too strong.

I believe it was date oriented and not 'strength' oriented. If it was the latter then there'd be no Lancs in EW.

Right, that is why I believe his custom arena would benefit from a better balanced plane set.

I forgot about the Spit 8, thanks Devil. Monday Night Madness uses a mid-war plane set, which made me curious as to what HTC used in old MW Main. Monday nights all planes are available to both sides so it's the same approach to balance as the Main. I'm considering an earlier war version of MNM on a different night of the week; again I needed some starting point as to what had been used in the past. With that said, there's always room for tweaking the plane set. Jaeger has become quite good at using things like fog layers, terrain features and icon settings to tone down the advantages of top tier aircraft.

I would say the TBM-3 is mid-war, arguably late-war.

Arlo, are you sure the Yak-7B and Yak-9T were only in the late war arena?

Both should have been at least been in mid war and the 7B is arguably early war and would be very competitive in the early war arena.

I would say the TBM-3 is mid-war, arguably late-war.

It's just the arena that HT put it in (probably since there wasn't an earlier version of a U.S. torpedo plane modeled). It could also be that if it was built in `42 or earlier then that was the qualifier and the TBF and TBM weren't that drastically different (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grumman_TBF_Avenger).

Whatever the reason, those or something entirely different, that's where HTC placed them.
