I'm done. You can have your game. Enjoy
« on: September 25, 2019, 07:22:33 AM »
Its too bad I discovered this game just this year. It is not a fun game to play. Not for me or any other new player that comes into the game. It is a sad truth that the community of players that play Aces High now will be the only players to ever play the game now.
A new player simply has no chance to experience good, fun gameplay. Even for a player with 20yrs flight game experience will only find frustration in this game. There is no opportunity to learn considering that, after flying for 15 minutes just to get to a base under fire, the new player will instantly get shot down. If he trys to spawn at a battlepoint he will just get spawn raped.
The level of play within the existing community is such that any new player has a zero chance for success or even a bit of enjoyment. If I am in a fighter bearing down on a bomber, the bomber will shoot me down before i even get a shot off.. If I am in the bomber, I will get shot down before I can even get in the turret to shoot at him! If I get above a guy, be in a faster plane and have better guns, he will climb into me and shoot me down with one pass, one burst and im shot down.. but if i get on his six, i waste all my ammo and still not shoot him down..
if i am attacking the ackack, then he mans the gun and shoots me down.. Put me in a field Gun and he shoots me down...
Not is any single scenario wherein I know I have tactical advantage, better aircraft, better weapons, i still find myself getting shot down by a single pass regardless of what they are in. Spawn, fly for 10 to 15 minutes all alone just to arrive and get shot down within 1 minute of engaging.. and repeat. Continually. By everybody.
I had high hopes for this game. Its just too bad that after 4 months of continous play, I am no closer to being even mildly effective that i was when i played it the first time.
You guys are some real good folks and I appreciate your acceptance of me, but for me, video games are therapy for my ptsd and there is not a single enjoyable thing about Aces High for me or any other new player.
Its just a relative statement of truth. No player can or will diminish his own skill to make it more welcoming to any new player.

1. Angle of attack is everything against bombers. A straight 6 attack is never a good idea.

2. Never fly alone, find people to wing with. You'll stay in the air longer.

3. A lot of people have been playing this game for 15+ years. They know every aspect of this game, especially gunnery.

This game is only as fun as you allow it to be. At the end of the day it's your money paying your sub. I wish you the best.

Saam you seem to have figured out why I recommend training to all the new players. You might recall a few people warning you about frustration. Aces High is a very difficult game to be successful at and there is much to learn and practice. Trying to be successful with Touch controllers just makes it 10 times harder. You were warned repeatedly.  Even with conventional HOTAS controllers it's very challenging.

Rage quitting is just part of Aces High, it's usually see ya in a couple weeks when you miss the good stuff.

The difficulty in AH is why HiTech made War Online:Pacific. It's much easier to be successful there with Touch controllers since the flight model was tweaked to be easier to control.

Blaming the game because you had unrealistic expectations is a mistake.  Imagine joining the Marines and telling them you'll train yourself, thank you very much, and in a year you expect to be top Marine.

I still recommend training, and practicing with another newbie. That way two new players can enjoy dueling with a chance of success, and learning to fly together for mutual support will make you more successful in the MA and in scenarios.

It took me two full years (despite several years in WB) to fly without embarrassing myself, let alone land kills on a semi-regular basis. Practice, practice, practice and practice again. And what the previous posters said.
See you soon in the air  ;)

You should ask for help.  It’s a brutal game at first but people will assist you, myself included.    We can go practice in the Dueling Arena and I’ll let you shoot me down so you can learn angles.

Bombers used to be my nemesis but I kept trying new things and now they are my favorite target.    Attack high and fast at a steep angle and you’ll waste them.

Don’t quit.  Ask for help.  PM me and I’ll meet you in a free to play arena so you can learn the ropes then maul everyone!

I admit though, it is way harder now for a noob than it was in 2000.  There was a much more varied spectrum of players then so you had a much better chance of running into an enemy that wasn't a hyper-predator multi-decade long ace.  Now, that is pretty much all that is left.

Back then, it wasn't often a 15min flight to action, so the  launch-shoot-die cycle seemed shorter and the investment cost of dying didn't seem so high.  A noob may only get 4 min of combat time in an hour of game-play.

Ditch the touch controllers.  That will never be viable in this environment unless you stick to bombers or something.  IMHO, there should be a separate arena available for mouse and touch players.  It's really not fair to throw them into a pit of 20 year vet velociraptors with full HOTAS.  :rofl

Don't give up Saam....I have played this game for years and years and the same thing happens to me that happened to you...

Thing of it is...you haven't given the game a chance...I've seen your posts...I highly recommend that you find some guys to fly with...the lone wolf thing doesn't work when you are new...

There are things that I still learn when I play...and I pass down all of my knowledge of the game to my guys...and they pass it on to newer players...its the way this game works...

No....It doesn't matter how long you've played other games or how good you were in other games...this is not them...

Fridays nights (not this Friday night) are FSO nights...I know for fact there are about 20 squads that are looking for Friday night flyers...and you would be a prize pick for one of them...You have played fight sims before...and are interested (were interested) in playing the game...FSO would be a great opportunity for you to pick the brains of other pilots...I'm telling you for certain...what you are experiencing can be remedied by letting someone take you under their wing...and I know for fact those people are out there...if they ain't...I'm sitting right here and can be reached by PM or email...I'll show you what the game is all about...

Sorry you feel this way... :salute

Hang in there. I have almost been here a year, this November I think, and I still get humbled, frustrated but enjoy the intense fights. I, like you, played a previous flight sim. Ended up being top 5 there when flying a lot and top 10 when just flying a few nights a week. Here, haha top 350 or however that rating thing works. Not really interested in points here now but those you see landing all those kills play 5 to 6 nights a week and have been here a long time and know everything we are still trying to learn. To me it is more about proper flight planning to stay alive. Up a base under attack without a lot of help and yup your vulched. I was a 109 guy forever but in the melee it is too slow so I had to learn faster planes but with that comes a longer flight, more time to grab a beer and autopilot becomes a friend :rofl
I am just now getting comfortable in a 109 in the ma. It took this long to figure out it's convergence, max speed before it lawndarts and angles. Now I am going through gun sites to see what really suits me. It is a brutal game with a learning cliff, there is no curve at all. Perfect example would be last Saturday. I couldn't hit the sky it seemed like. Kills started to appear but no matter what happened I couldn't land one. Just a tough day. So when you think you're on top and getting good well there will be those humbling days to set you straight.
For bmbrs I would get wasted by them all the time. 6 attacks are a no go as are beams. Have to be higher in here, come in at a steep angle and hit where the wings meet (fuel tanks), makes a great fireball but I learned that by flying with a few guys and getting advise. This is where a wingie helps. You diving on 3 bmbrs attracts all the otto, 3 attacking 3 and it is a little less intense.

If you're ever on when I am hit me up and I'll wing with ya and explain what I can. I'm ok but no where near good but I get by from time to time ;)

call signs the same minus the 109

Obviously years do not necessarily equal experience. This game takes practice to become good. If you do not have time to learn then you are right... this game is not for you.

This game is not one you can just start out on top. If you are willing, there are many folks here that will help you to improve. It does take time.

I suggest you keep playing but maybe a little less and only when there are more players on. It is a difficult game and I don't know if you have read up on the theory of dog fighting or not, that can help somewhat but isn't a panacea. I know despite my reading it took somebody pointing out to me that if I kept my nose pointed at the other guy he would have to turn to get me :bhead. If you want to improve bomber gunnery it is easy, just keep upping a set of B17 and fly at 4k to the closest base that has action, don't worry about bombing or landing. As far as the fighter game goes, patience, speed, and help from another player or if they are still available a trainer.  The Yak3 is an extremely forgiving plane so you could fly it and then alternate with an f4f Wildcat which is very durable and has lots of bullets but really will require patience and plotting as it doesn't have much power to speak of. Gunnery is my own worst skill, it is hard to get repetitive practice except maybe if you do staged missions. Back in AH2 there was an offline mission that pitted you against  successive waves of enme, setting ammo to unlimited and damage to nothing was the best practice I ever had. Now I am too lazy to figure out if I could do that again but maybe it is still an option. My gunnery is pretty amazingly bad and I think it is probably 90% of what makes a successful virtual fighter pilot but I still manage to have fun despite the embarrassment.

4 months is just a drop in the bucket SAAM. Like everyone else has said, dont give up, look for help. One way would be to film your sorties (ALT, R to start and stop film recording). I start mine as Im getting to the action and turn it off when I get sent to the tower  :) Upload your film to a hosting site, there are a number of free ones still around, and post a link to it on the message boards. Guys here will look it over and give you tips and point out your mistakes for you. An angle your using for a guns run make look good to you, but these guys with all the experience can tell you if it is a good angle or not and more importantly the WHY.

Learning to gage how much energy/speed another guy is carrying is another thing that takes time to figure out but again the guys with the experiance here can watch a film and tell you "look at this point, you can see blah blah blah" to help teach you what to look for.

Dont give up, you said you love this game. If it was easy everyone would play it for 10 minutes get a bunch of kills get bored and leave. The challenge is what makes it fun. Be happy with getting in the fight, the kills will come later. Remember, each and every one of these "killers" flew just as you are now. EVERYONE!

I think you hit SAAMIAM's issue with this.  When AW died and we all came here, I saw the same thing happen to a few of the really top AW players.  Suddenly they weren't at the top any more, and, having been there once, were extra-frustrated that they couldn't get right back there again.  Some of them stuck with the new flight model.  Some dropped out.  In a way, it was easier for those of us who had been average players (OK, OK, and us below-average players, too).

We set our own satisfaction requirements.  Mine are centered on having good fights; winning those is nice if and when it happens, but usually I don't.  Having those fights has kept me happy for quite a few years.  We have other people who are satisfied to improve/maintain their ranks; still others who want to amass kills; a group willing to sacrifice individual score if it helps their teams win the war; and people who just want to fly in company with their friends.  If your satisfaction depends on getting kills within the first year of playing a new game, you're not going to be happy.  That's just a cold, ugly fact.

And forget about score for now, it is not a good indicator. Later maybe set a score goal in one category and try that. Good luck.
