OK...I remember that there was a difference as to what the "ranges and corresponding feet/Yard/Meters"  the shown distance is? For the life of me, couldnt find a link to this question. I cant remember clearly, but I know I heard/read about it.  :uhoh

The range on the airplane icon is in yards.  Altitude is measure in feet.  Three feet to a yard.  So an airplane directly above you with an icon showing 1k or 1000 range would be 9000-10,000 feet higher than your altitude.

Also, the range shown in the airplane icon is approximate.  If I remember correctly, a range icon of 400 means the airplane is between 450 and 350 yards away, or something like that.

Correct on the alt/range stuff.  In closer, range is +/- 100 yards, so 400 means it's between 500 and 300.

I think you meant to say 3000 feet, not 9000  :old:

A plane shown to be 5k directly above you (on the ground) is at about 15k feet, 10k ~30k feet

It always seemed to me, no matter the icon indicator, the range is always just a tad beyond any tracer or 88 puff you throw at it.  :aok :salute
