Anyone run the Oculus Quest with the Link?
« on: December 15, 2019, 02:54:04 PM »
Looking to get into the whole VR thing....  I've read up on both the Rift S and the Quest and understand the two fundamental differences between them.  Recently the Oculus Link was released.  Link advertises you can now play the same games as the Rift S.

Given that it appears all new development is going to the Quest.....will AHIII play on the Quest???   Has anyone tried it yet?   Would hate to dump a lot of money into a solution that won't fit.

Thanks.

Softy

Let us know how that goes.  I expect a detailed AAR!   :D
The two modes of operation for the Quest is intriguing.  Best of both worlds?

The Link cable isn't shipping yet, best you can do is use a 'compatible' cable - I'm waiting for the official one though.

In the mean time if you have a Quest then Path of the Warrior will keep you very very very busy  :x

Any update Fork?

I had to wait on a USB C cable adaptor for the Quest. It’s coming in today so I can test it tonight or tomorrow. Will keep you posted.

My USB-A Male to USB-C Female adapter arrived today. Powered up my PC, plugged the Quest in with the Link cable, the Oculus software immediately recognized the Quest and as I was wearing it made it the active Headset (my Rift CV1 was still plugged in). Loaded AH, said yes the Oculus prompt and it just worked perfectly.

I did notice the FPS was pegged at 71fps, whereas my CV1 is usually 90fps. Everything looked good. Had a quick zip around in the MA without any issues.

Check the Windows mixed reality environment setting to see it didn't limit the framerate. Mine is set to 60 and 90 is also an option.

I just picked mine up and was about to test. Will keep you posted. :aok

See if you can get 90 FPS.

I think the quest is limited to 72, the S is limited to 80, and the CV1 goes to 90.

When the CV1 was launched 90 was supposed to be the minimum for a good VR experience.  I wonder if that only changed after they got rid of Palmer Luckey.

I'll check it out tonight when I get home. :aok

I don't use the steam version, just the oculus software. So yes I think the Quest is limited to ~70.  tbh I didn't notice a difference around the framerates.

Unless it stutters or the time between frames varies it should be pretty good. I think the CV1 is a little smoother but the S is fine at 80. I haven't tried the Quest with anything that would stress it like AH3.
