This is the P-38L-5-LO (s/n 44-26302) named "Hazel" and coded 413, flown by 1st Lt. Warren E. "Whip" Whipple of the 44th FS, 18th FG, Philippines, Summer 1945.

I don't have a whole lot of info on this airplane other than the above.   I should probably have asked Lyric1 to dig into it for me.  The one photo I have of it shows a very clean airplane.  The nose art was tough to get to look right due to some stretching and pixelating but I think it is okay.   I was considering NOT submitting this one since it is so plain.   I'll let you guys weigh in.

Thumbnails are to offsite uncompressed versions of the images below.

I'd fly it. It's not plain, just understatedly elegant.

Flying as "South52" for VF-17 Jolly Rogers
17 Squadron - The Hardest Day Battle of Britain
204 Kokutai - Target Rabaul
610 Squadron -TFT Battle of Britain

Have a few partials of this plane. More images of Whipple than his plane. Looks good 44th fighter squadron all look about the same except for nose art. Very few complete photos of this squadron.

Quick update to the windscreen framing and the OD lines on the nose.  The way this shape bends it really is a trick to get that thing straight.  I had to stare at one of Greebo's skins for about ten minutes to finally get an idea of what to do.

I think its a good looking scheme Vraciu and you should definitely submit it. The OD border line looks fine to me in the latest shot, but if you want me to send you one of my files to compare I'm happy to do so.

Yes, please, seeing yours would be a huge help.  My thanks in advance.

I'll submit it I guess.    I appreciate the kind words.

Awesome.  I've submitted it as shown above but any input you have can go into an update.   I intend to further modify the anti-glare line on the nose thanks to Greebo's help.
