What's the best time period for 8th AF ops in AH?
« on: February 10, 2020, 11:11:49 AM »
Is there a certain time period that is more enjoyable or more historically accurate?

The original Fortress Europe premise was a rolling plane set type event that began in May 1943. Some people didn't like that, mainly because the P-47D11 was the main Allied fighter for several months.

Would you like to continue that way, a monthly evolution with historical missions? Or would you like to start later? Maybe October 1943, Post Schwienfurt? Or January 44?

Or does that even matter? Would you rather just switch it up every month, maybe just rotate it around from early, mid, late with just random historical targets?

Or would you rather do just yearly scenario/12 hour type events using this terrain and setup?

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

From the Axis POV - in terms of enjoyable is 1943-early 1944, and ~Nov 44 onward.

Fall of 43 would add P-38s to the mid for the Allies which is good.

November-December 44 adds K4s and D9s to combat the abundance of P-51s.

My overall idea would be to evolve the event from the beginning of the campaign to the end of the war with certain objectives that each needs to be accomplished. That way it will take a long time.

Phase 1:
1) Target all fields and factories in Netherlands.
2) Once an airfield has lost all hangars, 75% damage to associated town and a factory has been 50% destroyed, the airfield on next event loses all LW aircraft capability.  Any factory receiving 50% damage is no longer a valid target during next event and other factories must be targeted.
3) Once all airfields and factories are destroyed, then Phase 1 is complete.

This will be mostly a coastal fight between the two sides.  Aircraft from both sides should reflect that part of the war.

Phase 2:
Same as Phase1 but Belgium is target.

Phase 3:
Move farther inland and assign specific airfields and factories for that phase.  Increase types of aircraft for both sides to reflect later stage in the war.

Phase 4 going forward:
Repeat until Berlin has been reached.

Phase Berlin:
Downtown action.

That's the short list of the idea.  it will need plenty of meat to make it tasty.

The original event worked something like this, of course we never made it very far into the event before I stepped away. Sometimes I think it's too much, and maybe just focus on one-off missions, or smaller scenario type events with registration.

January 44 on as at least you can provide some escort for the bombers that can go in deep.    So you get Bigweek, The first attacks on Berlin.  The major brawls of May 44 prior to the invasion etc

Join us in two weeks for a mission to Dortmund. Got a P-38J just for you!

I would argue that May 44 - October 44 is bad and I'd avoid it for balance reasons.
