Double Function on HOTAS switches
« on: October 04, 2020, 09:13:54 PM »
Tonight the hotas switches in game attained double functions. They maintained the function I had selected but almost all the buttons suddenly had another function as if some default button mapping had loaded itself into my game settings. I went in a checked tham manually and all looked fine but every time I resumed play they would weirdness resumed. After 45 minutes of trying I game up and logged.

Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it?

Off-line until resolved.

Did you try rebooting your PC?

Not only rebooting, did you try pressing Shift while clicking Shutdown and then start normally?

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

I did a little investigating and discovered the following:
1) only the Warthog stick is affected.
2) the issue only manifests when the stick is moved. Pitch or Aileron input.
ex: if I fire the trigger button it works as intended. IF I pull back on the stick and pull the trigger button, 4 things other switches are activated.
3) When I unplug the control handle from the base all button functions active. This leads me to believe that the default circuit for a button is hot, and breaks in the circuit active the function.

Conclusion: I think this is a hardware issue. Rotating the gimbal in the base of the warthog flight stick is breaking the connection to several (all?) button functions.  Not sure what would cause this. I dread opening it.

It's not difficult to disassemble if you're handy.

Thrustmaster is finally selling replacement bases if you need one.

not sure... wootang was having an issue with his Hotas ...he had a new X65 and he was getting what I would consider a similar thing you were... his inputs he said seemed to have multiple commands and which one he got seemed very random... he was jumping between gunner positions, views etc... not sure what he did but at the time it was very unplayable for him..and tracking down the issue was difficult as all command keys looked to be right.....but I see he is back in game so he may have found something...But I am not sure if he frequents these boards...

Vinkman, I had a very similar issue with my Warthog, and it was caused by the wires that run up through the base that the handle mounts to had chaffed through the insulation and were shorting.

That exactly what it seems like. That would be very disappointing for such an expensive stick after so little use. I guess I'll pull it apart and seem if I can repair it.

i don't think it's the stick itself.  think it's a bug.  my throttle sometimes switches to clipboard even though i don't have clipboard assigned.

Bought a new base and hooked it up. Problem solved. So this seems to have been a hardware problem. Also checked the order date for Warthog stick, it was 3 years ago. So not as new as I remembered.
