I think it will help with a lot of the narrative of the same ole teams getting in (eg. nobody but Bama, Ohio St., Clemson, and X getting in), but it won't help in the sense of different teams winning.

But I like the change and it'll definitely bring in a lot of revenue.

Expansion opens up a larger can of worms. Then, the committee will not have to justify leaving a 12-0 Hawaii out of the Playoffs. They will put them in and watch them get destroyed by a 2 loss Auburn.

Understandable concern, but I doubt this scenario will play out in only an 8 team playoff.  Too many boxes to check, SOS being a big one, for an undefeated team from a weak conference to sneak in.  There are just too many factors that go into the CFP rankings for that to happen.  They know who the good teams are and why the argument for expansion.  At least one or two "really" good teams miss out most years and I don't mean an undefeated Mountain West team.

But unlike say basketball, the lower seeded teams would have no shot of winning the championship, so why go there?  You would also be adding more games/weeks onto the schedule.  I only stated an eight team playoff instead of a six because I feel the team that is awarded the bye game would have too much of an advantage due to the physicality of the sport.

I don't think 16 seeds have much chance of being champs.  But it's fun to watch the games even so, and the odds (although low) aren't 0.000.

I hear you.  To me, though, a bunch of these are like bowl games with more-exciting matchups, even if 5-12 don't have as much chance to win it all as 1-4 do.

I agree, it would definitely add excitement to a mostly  boring bowl schedule.  Especially now that more and more players of teams not in the playoffs are sitting out.  The biggest hurdle I see in a playoff with that many teams is  number of games played.  The championship game would possibly mark the 5th post season game for the two teams playing if you include their conference championship game.  Even 4 is too many probably.

DII football has a 28-team playoff. Up to 5 post-season games.  So it might work OK.  We'll probably get to see how it goes.

Well, I do know one thing for sure.  Rush is an awesome band.
