HiTech also requires an account to play Aces High.  Logging in to Oculus with a Facebook account is no big deal, it will provide features that outweigh any security risk.  I already have a Facebook account with enough pictures to develop a deepfake of myself, they aren't going to be watching me play video games just because they are a big company.

I just ordered the Oculus Quest 2 for my kids, I was going to go with the Rift S, but it didnt seem to have any large benefits over the Quest, and the Quest can be used stand alone and wireless.  Just takes a USB-C cable to play some PC games.  I used to have the original Rift and used it for Aces High.  I enjoyed the flying experience with it, but was much worse in combat.  I thought my depth perception was way off and I wasnt hitting targets even though it looked like I should be.  My situational awareness was actually much lower than when I use hat keys on a joystick.

Facebook sells you, HiTech does not. Facebook has had security breaches that exposed millions of users. If you are fine with putting your family out there, be my guest.

AH is the only reason I thought I would get VR. With recent changes to the game, I am starting to lose interest in it. Really never thought I would say that.

So what is the risk if I have a facebook account with no friends, groups etc, nothing posted to it?

I tried to make one for a customer who wanted it just to be able to see what's happening there. After having switched most every button to "disabled" FB told that they can't allow such an account.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

Read up on what can be amased from your VR usage.

I do have a FB account under an odd name so that I can post on news sites. Other than that it is not connected to me at all.... not even in name.

The biggest risk I see is that it appears that if they deem you unfit, for thought crime or whatever, and lock you out of your account, you can't use the headset.

That is a small issue. It can happen, but not the big problem.

Even if you do nothing else, they can actually identify you through your VR use. Research it....

Reverb2 is the one I'd get if eye glasses are not needed

Don't know what you are missing Shuffler

Get it and return it if it is not for you

My guess is that like the rest if us once you go vr you do not go back

I dunno, my facebook account gets such random friends/group suggestions I'm confident they know SFA about me.
