Hey squaddie!

I play Star Wars: Squadrons, it's really fun. They did a great job with the sounds and feel of the various cockpits. I FEEL like I'm inside Star Wars. I'm only a couple missions in, and the one (literally one) melee match I played have all been awesome. With a joystick that only has 8 programmable buttons, I am outclassed, as they have options for double-digit function assignments - some of which are required for gameplay. For example, in the very first mission, first time you're in the cockpit, it took me several minutes of pressing all buttons to finally launch from the hangar. I ended up mashing the keyboard (space bar?) and finally it worked. But the game forced assignment to like button 10 or 11, and I couldn't use the joystick to activate. Once in-flight, I'm set. Another example was a point in a mission where I needed to hit a 'boost' function during the lead-up sequence. Again I mashed the keyboard until something worked, as the joystick was non-cooperative with that point of the mission.

I want to try fleet battles next, I look forward to the objective based ebb-flow of a fleet fighting, rather than just a kill-em-all deathmatch. Try it out, I think you'll really enjoy it!

Do you play VR?
I'm wondering how motion sick it would get.

'Tis the only way to play it! Just like in Aces High. The only games where I get some motion sickness are the standing games where walking is involved - I much prefer teleport motion. Flying games are perfect for VR, really an incredible way to play.

It depends on how your HOTAS setup is listed in the Controller ID list.  I had no troubles at all with the game recognizing my HOTAS and rebinding the buttons on my set up.

I have my stick as 1, throttle as 2, rudder as 3. It automapped all kinds of stuff to the throttles. It felt like I stepped back 20 years.

I did have a strange automap with the MS Force Feedback 2, where it turned my y-axis into the yaw (normally z-axis), and the z-axis twisty stick part into the roll left/right. After switching those around it flew more like the Star Wars non-real physics we know, where it flies like an airplane!
