As Jefferson alluded to... sedition is patriotic
 :salute

For the people, by the people...

I can’t put my finger on when the US lost that exactly. The past two decades certainly have seen a ruling class develop however!

Martha Stewart goes to jail (not that she shouldn’t have) but the elected are exempt.  :headscratch:
They're casting their bait over there, see?

The US never lost that.  The greater concern is that these politicians are perfect representatives of who we are.

Of course they do but from California and New York?
Do you not see the pattern of high taxes?
Enjoy your tax increase

 :salute

I've lived in nc, checked how much my taxes would be in Georgia and Alabama just for kicks.

my taxes are 1/2 of what i would pay in those states.  I'm enjoying my lower taxes.  thanks for asking.

CA’s lower tax brackets are low for low income.

But it’s high city sales taxes and VAT taxes that combine to make it higher.

I thought you just posted you live in NC?

The tuna fleet in San Diego often puts a fuel surcharge on top of the cost when diesel gets goes over $3

I said I lived in nc, when I first moved there on 1992 as my company moved there.  just for your info and you can check easily by going into the state tax schedules.

on income of 50k after all deductions.  filing married.

CA: about 1k
NC: about 2,700

rest of the southern states total state income tax is twice what is in california.  see the thing most people think the max rate in california applies to everybody.  it doesnt, your rate increases as your income goes up.  in most of the southern states, it's a flat rate, about 5%.  in california you would have to make about 87k to pay the same as in nc making 50k

semp

edit: california doesnt tax food.  I do pay 5 bucks in tax for cigarretes maybe more, maybe less, beer not sure.  non food items is depending on which county you live.  not sure somewhere around 6-10%.  cars taxes are high but not any higher than in nc, then again I havent lived there in 20 years.  however I do know that food is cheaper at least where I live than what I used to pay in nc.

The tuna fleet has no choice as fuel cost isn't subsidized by our government like other governments do for their fishing fleet.  I remember when I was a kid living in San Diego, the tuna fleet being gutted and almost disappeared from San Diego because Mexico wouldn't let the SD tuna fleet go into Mexican waters and almost 3/4 of the tuna fleet left San Diego.  The tuna fleet hasn't recovered and is about to lost 1/2 of the remaining fleet.

Covid has hit them hard to this year but it was a great BF, YF and dorado season.

During the “Great Recession” the tuna fleet was hit harder than it is now.

With a 10 year absence now of much albacore it’s a big part of the equation. The timeframe you’re referring to, we could count on (took for granted), practically set your watch/calendar for limits of albacore in late June into July and then as waters got warmer the yellowfin. Such is not the case anymore.

Yes the boats/owners have to put that surcharge on to keep their boats...
CA fuel costs/taxes get passed onto customers in all kinds of recreational activities unfortunately.
