troop survival -- one more time

I ran troops into a map room in a prepped town, but a defender killed a couple before they got in.  So, I towered out and re-upped with a jeep and more troops, and someone said that my previous troops would be cancelled because I re-upped.  True?   I thought that once troops were in the map room they would count.

I'm confused....

My understanding is once troops are in the Map Room, they are good for 10 minutes, and you may re-up with additional troops. That is assuming of course the Flag or Town Guns don't pop, as you know the either one of those resets the Map Room.

Once they're in the maproom, they've "hit" it and they count.  If they were running when you reupped, they disappear.
