They found a bomb at my place today

I was wondering why fire engines and the police were parking right on the street in front of our house this morning. It turned out they found a British 500lb bomb in a small excavation pit a mere 30 meters away. Luckily, the fuse was already missing, so they just closed down traffic on the road and did not have to evacuate the whole neighbourhood.

That’s crazy!  When I was a kid living in Okinawa in the late 1970s it was common to find unexploded ordinance in the jungles there.  We were taught to report it immediately.  I personally found 2 pineapple grenades not too far from Naha. 

I used to play Marines in the jungle in Oki!  Hahaha!

Well I am glad nothing bad came of it and it was able to be moved because that seems like a hell of a thing to see outside your home

My boy was frequently walking on that wall when we were coming home from Kindergarten, with me right next to him. So I literally walked over that bomb hundreds of times  :noid

The Brits were just trying to add nitrates to the soil. You know improve it for growing things.........

Unless there is a real concentrated effort, which would cost a HELL of a LOT of money, it wouldn't surprise me if they are finding unexploded ordinance a 100+ years from now. Even then, they'll likely find the odd bomb here or there.  And not just in cities mind you, but also scattered throughout the country side.  Remember, not all bombers made it to their targets and ditched bombs over the countryside to lighten the load in an attempt to get home.
