Has Kursk been run lately? Or Battle of the Bulge?

Big tank battles with air support. Has the worm turned yet regarding tank based historical events?

I think at this point it would be numbers as an underlying problem.  To split the numbers between air and ground might make both too "thin".  Can the current maps for each support this?  Would GV's get more than one life?  That being said, maybe a run a Snapshot of one or both of these and see how the turnout looks?  If good enough then maybe a Scenario or FSO?

I'm honestly curious.  :)

remember a North Africa scenario after the firefly came out, don't think the numbers are there for a combined air and ground event.

The only thing that has in common with my query is the word 'tank.' :)

The events I'm suggesting aren't a 'combined air and ground event.' They are tank events with some air elements.

You really should look up the air power available for both sides at Kursk. That was hardly "tank event with some air elements"

And yet we were talking about the impracticality of splitting the player base, not how precise the equipment list/assets reflect the historical event. We both already know we can't have it both ways.

But the reality is that the air units would be a bigger draw for the player base. So, in any practical terms, there will be more players flying planes in any event with both air and ground elements. Any design would have to account for that eventuality.

I'm all for giving it a go in a format outside of FSO. I'd be interested in hearing from the GV drivers about which tanks match up well against each other.

Stalin's Fourth was awesome.

Since then, we tried many times to have scenarios with GV's.  We found that:
-- GVers in general don't show up for scenarios.
-- Flyers in general don't prefer to be in GV's.
-- We don't have enough players anyway anymore to have both air and ground.

Has anyone ever done a Operation Carthage scenario?

AFAIK the general consensus is the GV guys (at least the ones today and the ones who participate in the AvA on Thursdays) don't want said air elements. Similarly to the MA, there is a frustration of being bombed which I totally understand.

Something I've longed for is some ability to have AI tank columns like AI plane missions. Even if they were static. It would give some use for the Stuka G, Hurri IID, IL2, and other various fighter-bombers. We can place static vehicles on the fly but they don't have the characteristics of a tank, they explode when you breathe on them, sadly.

Another instance properly deployed AI units would add to game play

Both air and gv units should have AI elements to enhance gameplay with the oversized maps we cannot get changed or updated...

Which means adding AI is certainly out of the question.. :)

I honestly feel the best setup for GV's is making them optional for players in multi or an unlimited lives situation.

Start everyone in aircraft or the option of GV's, then enable GV's at a certain time. The objective should always be a capture the flag type scenario.

I have done this before in an old FSO setup called "Clash at Kursk" I also tried an event format several years ago loosely called "Seize and Hold" where aircraft and GVs work together to capture and hold an airfield or vehicle base objective. I only ran a couple of them and stopped after low turnout.

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Many years ago, We had something similar with an Operation Jericho snapshot event.
