Six hours
« on: June 05, 2022, 01:14:50 PM »
I spent six-hours this weekend repairing a Sony Minidisc recording deck I got from Germany for a song. Successfully, happily   Couldn't afford a working one right now.

Also got a few cassette tape Walkman waiting for spares while I investigate inneficient experiential richness.

Anyone out there also listening to music on deprecated formats?

Does vinyl count? I have hours upon hours of music on Betamax and an antique Sony to play it on and a classic  NAD disc player for the many boxes of cd’s I have. Also there an old Walkman disc player around somewhere, likely with Atari and nes systems.

But my pride and joy is the working pong game machine I have….oh the hours of fun that was.

No vinyl is still issued and the good, thick stuff too. Somewhat of a revival started in Germany I heard.

That's very clever, had a friend that used to record radio on VHS.

Can you play "Tomorrow Never Knows" on it? Always a great benchmark  :rofl

Actually it’s more like what Arlo said, back and forth until someone misses the point! But I have never tried to play a song on pong….

The Betamax had superior sound th vhs as I used both, still have a vhs machine that’s a hybrid, tape and CD player.

The vinyl is old, plenty of heavy weight English import LPs and many have only been played once to record then put away,I also have several double copies where one LP has never been played.

Not sure exactly how many but between 1000 and 1500 would be a good guess, every payday I would buy one or 2 but these days they are asking close to 50 bucks a copy so I scour second hand stores to get classics on the cheap.

Wow that's a serious and indeed weighty collection. There was a video about the dangers of vinyl sleeves I watched recently. Something to do with gasses passing through and affecting the disk. Probably you know all about it. I'm a minimalist I've only got about a dozen atm  :rofl  Sent about three dozen to the charity shop. Lady Gaga's Greatest hit single was a bit dissappointing  :old:

Fetch it out! A company still makes the gumstick batteries. Net MD a step too far I think.

I watched a restored Sony WMDDII go for £387.00 on eBay yesterday

Randomly had Cypress Hill on an MD. Now I'm calling Mrs Shida Essay.

When I bought my truck last year, I got home with and couldn't find the CD player.  Call the salesman.  There is no CD player, everybody listens to serius or a streaming service.

So I ripped all my CDs and copied them to a USB drive and boom... Takes about a month of driving to go through my playlist.  Oh, yeah, playing songs on old stuff.  It's a Ford.  Fords are old.

Yes... either usb or Bluetooth off your phone. Works great.

I am still in the market for a new truck. Seems like forever. 3500HDs are extremely sparse.

Yes the first thing I do is remove the outer wrapping and the sleeve, the inner sleeve can scratch the LP and the putter wrapping can cause warping.

I have many English import punk LP’s,they use the heavy weight vinyl and are almost twice the weight of of a standard North American offering, oil crisis caused them to use less vinyl or so I’ve been told but it makes sense as the change happened around 1974.

Any Cassette deck experts out there? What's the deal with Dolby S and DBX? Can you replay those on non Dolby S and DBX players?

I have many English import punk LP’s,

Fantastic. I grew up in Liverpool in the punk era. It really meant something back then. Now it's just a fashion statement.
