I don't think it would be that much.

I also don't think it is for Trump's self-aggrandizement.

Trump took up border wall because he saw that a portion of the population was highly in favor of it.  He could adopt that issue as part of a strategy to get elected.  If no one cared about that, I doubt he would have made that part of his platform.

That's right. Trump was elected because of his stance on the border, building the wall and putting Americans first for a change. That was his message.

Can anyone tell me what Biden's message was?

I have lots of pals who hate Trump, and lots of pals who like Trump, and some in between.

Yeah, like Liz Cheney who has possibly the highest Conservative voting record in Congress.  But he second she is not down with Trump's insurrection, now suddenly she is a RINO.

59 billion x 3. plus labor, plus land acquisition and soon you are talking trillions.

I don't think so.

$15B was spent to build/replace 450 miles of wall.

At that cost rate, 2000 miles would be $70B.

It's a stupid boondoggle.
[ladders]

Walls do not reduce transit to 0%.  But they do cut it down a lot.  Which is why lots of places (airports, Vatican, rich people's houses, etc.) use walls.  When Hungary put up fencing across their border, crossing went from 4000-8000 illegal immigrations per day to a few.

Quote
But the vast majority of that mileage can be easily be covered with remote sensors and drones

That is excellent.  But it requires government agencies to do or be allowed to it.  Lots of people are concerned that an administration could have all that stuff stand down and do nothing.

You want to fix illegal immigration?  Throw a couple of hundred rich factory\food processing executives in prison for employing illegal labor.  95% of the problem would disappear immediately.  Problem is, those are probably Republican donors.

Yep.  But they are democrat and republican donors.  They are what people on both sides call "establishment" -- folks who utilize connections to government to get more money.

Also, I think there are political incentives that can favor illegal immigration.

As opposed to confiscating tens of thousands of acres of private ranch land much of which had been in families for generations.

Is it better to steal American families land or just fly a drone over it?

She's for lots of things that some conservatives don't like -- not just that.  But she's a politician.  Politicians always get opposition for this or that.

I'm a private citizen.  In my experience, left-leaning people and regions I've lived in are highly intolerant.  Right-leaning are not.  Again, just what I've seen and lived.  It's different for different folks and regions.

I give it about 0% chance to build the whole border.  I give it 50/50 that some more will be built, though.

I would have given it less than 50/50 for more, but the current administration's handling of the border has incentivized a lot of people toward more wall.

Trump's administration built 450 miles of new and replaced wall/fence.

They didn't have the cost of 450 miles to go off of when they did their study.

I'm doing just a simple thing:  how much did it cost so far?

You do know that estimates do not all come out the same.  Every estimate will give a different number, depending on details, specific assumptions, etc.

My point:  it is not $trillions.  It is 1/10th of that or less.

The point is you don't know how far it would have spiraled over budget.  (Big Dig anyone?)

And we'll never know thankfully because we dumped Donny and his vanity project is toast.

It's over.  Deal with it.

Eminent domain is part of accepted law.  I understand the necessity of it at times.  Without it, we would have problems constructing transportation systems, energy systems, etc.

However, I am opposed to government acquiring the land at less than market value.

Regardless, surveillance is better in a world where administrations enforce the law.

A barrier is better in the real world, in my opinion.
