I read about this yesterday. Sure seems like a bold and sudden move.

Seems like a really bad move.

The dealers can still price gouge. They can still set their own prices but they have to list the dealer price I believe.

the Ford dealerships were always notorious for overcharging.  all dealers do but Ford was the worst. and I bought cars in 3 different states.

fixed prices are good in a way.  and with all info on the internet  doing your own research helps a lot too.

think it's a good move by Ford.  some dealerships will close buty most will stick around.

it's a way for them to be ready to sell and maintain everything.

Its a good move for the dealerships too, after a while the electric RC car phase will pass us by and the will still be able to sell the "regular" cars that the masses want/need at incredible markups.

It's a win, win for them.

I know I saw a Yugo going for almost 20 bucks.

I heard you can pre-order a 23' Corvette for $60k over MSRP ~plus~ a non-refundable HUGE deposit.  And there are morons lining up...  So.. Ford's not the only one with predatory price schemes.  I suppose they're all adults and are aware of what they're getting into, right?  Although...  I find it hard to muster sympathy for people with more money than brains.

Or First On Race Day. And of course Fix Or Repair Daily.

To be fair dealerships don’t make money selling cars,it’s the Addons and parts and service that bring in the bucks so I can see why some might be upset over EV’s. Sure there will be issues with nav systems and displays, tires and brakes will still need to be replaced. But the main money stream won’t be there like it used to be.

Exactly. Way less parts to sell and install.

I forgot to add used cars to the make money list. Years ago my wife was an accountant at a large dealership, they had a rental fleet and department. Once a rental hit about 10k miles it would be pulled from the fleet and sold as a used car at almost 100% pure profit. The “used” car would be valued at 100 dollars and sold at that price from the rentals to the dealer who would turn around and sell it at market value. They would do the same voodoo with trade ins.

I see a future where you just order a car of Amazon and it’s delivered to your door, or one of those vending machines….wonder how big the coin will be to use the vending machine…. :old:

problem with carvana was the same as with other dealers, during the pandemic it took months to get registration which is against state law. should only take 30 days.

I bought a car in 2020 and it took 4 months to get the registration. but I got a good price and was in and out in little more than 1 hour. the dealer only had 3 people working. so I'm assuming carvana had the same problem.

I have never bought a car from carvana but I bought several from carmax. always got a good price.
