Seeing the other thread about source books, I got the idea of sharing what I consider to be some of the best books I have on single airplanes of World War II.
Hellcat: The F6F in World War 2 by Barret Tillman. Though this book doesn't cover much technical information such as performance, it gives a very thorough and readable accounting of the F6F in operation during the war. Tillman's book on the Wildcat is also very good and well written, though it too only deals with the operatioinal history of the plane.
Me 262 Vols. 1, 2, 3, and 4. By J. Richard Smith and Eddie J. Creek. This is absolutely the most thorough accounting of a single plane I have ever found. This series not only gives and operatiional history, but a history of Messerschmitt, the political interference on the 262 program, information on all the variants (both operational ones, tested ones, and proposed ones), and performance data. There is even a translation of the pilot's handbook in it. Now, if I could only find a simlar series on the Hellcat and Tomcat... (I know, wishful thinking, but you never know...
