3 story building tank hiding?
« on: February 23, 2023, 09:14:24 PM »
Is  this bug going to be fixed ever?

A lot of unrest in the GV community over this bug.  Only a couple of players abuse this bug albeit they abuse it in a big way.

Often, they take advantage of the country auto-swap to maximize the number of kills.

This is getting out of hand for sure.

Talk of moving on to other games is gaining more traction.

Can't you just kill them with some bombs?

Is this something a mapmaker could fix?
Back in 2022 after a loooooong break from 2010. Old name Ratpack, same for the BBS.

Yes map makers can help by not using those terrain tiles any where gv's can be used. That is what I have started doing on my maps. If I use those 2 tile sets I try to make sure they are miles and miles away form any base or strat. However that does not fix the maps that currently use the tiles in question.

So i guess that would mean that if the building was repaired, or that tile removed it would mean that every map would have to be compiled again and then downloaded again for every person that plays the game. Sounds like a huge P.I.T.A. Might be easier to just avoid the area that these 3 story buildings are and let those few A holes sit alone playing with themselves.

It is a fantastic map because of these "tiles".
That's not the only spectacular feature of the map. I will get to that in a minute but first...
If someone is in a GV in a three story building you can hit the building with HE and kill them or just drive in there and blow them to smithereens that way. What's the big deal?

Just because someone is in a building doesn't mean they are engaging anyone. It is an excellent and safe place to hide.
And if they are engaging you can bet they are absolutely thrilled being covert.
It isn't cheating if anyone can do it. It makes it a very fun map.

What really makes this map special is that there are at least 5 different ways to get to the top ridge in a GV. Two of the routes are by backing up all the way but there is also a fabulous bug on this map that lets you lock your front tracks into the cliffside and shimmy up to the top. The cliff has to be the exact angle or it won;t work. So far I have found 3 locations that you can do this at in the crater.

Once you get to the first level of the crater you can get to the top of the outer crater rim!!!!!!
YOU CAN FIRE ON AND REACH CV'S PASSING THROUGH THE STRAIGHTS WITH A TANK FROM THERE!!!!
I bet nobody but me has ever done that before.

IT'S A GAME!

Why would anyone want to change that? Where is the BOWLMA map by the way? I have not seen it in the current rotation.

Whenever I gripe about jets I always hear the retort “well they were in wwii so deal with it”

Well guess what… wwii also had tanks hiding in buildings!

If you can’t ever kill them then that’s a problem that should be addressed. If it’s just a lot harder to kill them but still doable than that sounds like wwii to me.

I don’t spend the time in gvs that I used to but I would not complain about it. Hoagie for example certainly doesn’t view it as cheat. He is very vocal when he is about to do it if he is on your side.

Difference between gamer and virtual pilot/tanker is probably what makes some prefer bugs instead of reality.

What comes to jets and other advanced machines, some kind of timeline in some melee maps might be interesting to try. To have contraptions available only from certain era.

First off your statement on using HE to kill anyone in building is incorrect, it does not kill everyone, it might take out a jeep, M3 or an M18, but it doesn't always kill Wirbl's and I've never seen it kill a tank. You can bomb the building if you know which one it is, that works. You also can not "just drive in and kill them" most of the time it takes to long to get into the building.

Second, gaming the game is still cheating.

You can get a Wirble in the building too????? That's fantastic!
I tried with a couple of other vehicles but could not get in.

You are right about the HE. I was there the day Kilroy's turret was sticking out of the building. That's when the cat got out of the bag. There must have been 10 people pounding the building with HE. It is definitely not a one shot kill with HE. It also is not fun being on the receiving end of someone shooting as you drive by. It's not fun always getting shot down in a plane either though. Someone has to be bait. If this is the only map that has that bug then it could be very entertaining and a real Melee like the WW1 New Years Eve fight. There are many maps and it doesn't come around often but with these new "bugs" it actually adds a lot of excitement to the game. Fly off the top ridge going full speed in a tank and hit the ground 2000 feet below and RTB to the pad. It is fun and it feels good.

It isn't too whimsical but I have been looking forward to it and check the rotation daily. I think it was already taken out.I hope not and am not certain about it yet.

I'm going to post a video of the lift. It's funny. I forgot to mention. A person can drive a tank full speed off the top of the cliff. That's like a 2000 foot drop or more. You hit and drive away....no damage.
Excellent escape plan when under attack on the ridge. I shouldn't be giving away all these secrets but there is another with that map and it has to be intentional.

If you are at V51 or the north base (I think it's V51) if you launch a GV from the base and drive west along the wall eventually you will run into a 3 story house there. It is way out of place and shouldn't be there. Go to the back of the house and look up. You will see a green path of grass. That is a lock-in location for a T34 to scale the cliff.

Another location is behind V51 in the west corner. Look for the second dark dot on the mountainside and look up for the grass trail. That is a great lock-in point.
Just be flush with the mountain and keep holding down W to lock in. Once you lock in you will hear a boom over and over and the whole GV will start shaking. Then simply hold down the D or A key while holding W and up you go on the Luft Lift. Do not let go of any buttons until you hit the second ledge. When hit the second ledge let go of everything and the GV will stop and slowly self climb over the top edge. If it isn't moving just spin the tank around in reverse and back up. Once you make it to the first ledge you can also back up all the way but it takes too long.
Total time to the top is exactly 2 minutes (02:00). It's a heck of a lot of fun but watch out for Tankman and BTBrando. They like to take shots at you as you climb the hill.

I have made it to the top many times but can't stick the landing. It is the most vertical cliff of all that you can climb and it is about 3K straight up.

I have seen the lift on the TT vbases on Bowlma, Handsolo used it a lot. It is still in the rotation.

The building issue exist on 3 maps that I know of, Fjordma, Bowlma, and Craterma. Not sure if I used the tiles on ETOMA, but the 2 other maps I have up, I have tried to not use the offending tiles near any spawn or base. That makes this issue moot.

Never heard the name Handsolo but wow that’s a good one!!

The building thing still doesn't feel like a bug to me. Also, perspective matters, lots of people think because they can’t possibly see an opponent, the opponent must not be able to see them. That’s a big bag of nope.

Tanks were hiding in buildings in WW2, but not in unscathed ones. In real world, one needs minimum tank size hole in a building to get it in there and that size of a hole is visible.

These hacks or bugs, using them for own advantage, well... In real war everything possible is used, but this kind things do not exist there. I'm not going to use them, as I have a life in real world and I consider this kind of acts childish. Perhaps ego needs more boosting than is possible to get normal way? But as I wrote up there, difference between gamer and virtual pilot seems to go just there. I rather stick in reality in AH.
