ZG 26 Me 410
« on: March 17, 2023, 04:50:05 AM »
Thank you to Lyric1 for finding me the info for this skin.

This Me 410 was part of 3./ZG 26 while the group was making its ill-fated attempt to defend Germany from the USAAF's 8th Air Force bombers. It had field-applied wave mirror camouflage applied over its factory scheme.

While the Luftwaffe's Me 110 and Me 410 Zestorer groups occasionally inflicted heavy losses on American bombers, this only happened when there were no USAAF escort fighters around. The Zestorers increasingly suffered crippling losses to long range enemy fighters like the P-51 and from mid 1944 they were withdrawn from combat so these units could be re-equipped with the Me 262.

Beautifully done, Greebo.  What an intricate camouflage pattern - I can imagine the intricacy of blending and matching it across skin sections.

Looks great!

Thanks guys, glad you like it. As Oboe suggested there was a lot of tedious trial and error matching of stripes at the seams.

The Me 410, like the Tempest, was produced in only a single factory scheme and this had always put me off skinning it up until now. I figured I'd just be changing the squadron markings and that's another skin. However amongst all the Me 410 photos Lyric1's found me there's at least a couple more with different kinds of field-applied camo schemes to this one that will make the project a bit more interesting.
