Thank you, Lyric. You are the skinning community's MVP for sure!
OK, it's a little weird that 42-28839 is a P-47D-28RA and yet is clear from the picture it has the tail dorsal fin. I thought the first appearance of the dorsal fin came with the -30RA submodel. I can only conclude some -28RAs were field modified?
At any rate, thanks to Lyric and Dadtallica, the skin 42-28839 is safe as a D-40.
Vraciu identified the 367th FG skin I am working on - "Duck Butt". There is a plastic model of her and the box art grabbed me:
Vraciu's image of her is actually a B&W photo of the model in a diorama setting - extremely well done. When finished she'll go in as a new submission rather than an update of an adoption.
BTW, apparently "duck butt" was slang for a short person but I have no idea who the figure in the nose art is, or why the plane was named such. Pilot was Lt Arthur G. Witters; he stayed in the Air Force after the War and went on to build the USAF Academy in Colorado Springs.
"Big A55 Bird" is one of my favorite D-25 skins. That one, "Coffey's Pot", "Snorting' Bull" are all terrific. Greebo does an outstanding job with all his skins.
